W5R3 but not feeling great

I’m after your advice, I’m a very unfit 45 year old who has had ME for the past 10yrs but I’m at the stage where I felt I could try some exercise. So far I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well I’ve done, and with no or very little payback after my runs. However, yesterday when I did R2 of week 5 I felt fine at first but by the time I’d finished the second 8 minutes I felt like I was going to throw up. I felt fine after 10-15mins but a bit off all day, and today I’ve felt off again.

I’m not sure if it’s the ME telling me I’ve pushed it too hard or if I’m coming down with a cold but my question is what I should do about continuing? The danger with ME is if I do push too hard it could make me relapse for weeks, possibly months, but at the same time I was doing so well and I don’t want to lose what I’ve achieved.

I thought I might perhaps go back to R1 from this week, 3x5 min runs and see how I get on, that way I’m still doing something but it’s something I know I can do as I’ve already done it!! What do you guys think? And is there anyone else on here who is an ME sufferer?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

If you feel like throwing up during a run, then you are probably pushing too hard.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run? If not, you are going too fast.

This is about duration, not pace, so there is no need to push hard.

Why not read the guide, prepare well with good rest and hydration and give W5R3 a go at a nice steady pace.

What have you got to lose?

You have already completed 5 workouts longer than that run and if you take it steady, you will probably surprise yourself.

This breakdown of W5 may convince you healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You can do this.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you for your reply. I've never felt like throwing up before, just the last few minutes of that run but as I’ve not felt great since I’m thinking it’s probably my ME giving me a nudge to remind me to take it easy. I can manage to talk whilst running as I do go pretty slow, so no danger of going too fast!!

I’ve read your links, very interesting stuff, I think I’ll set off on run 3 tomorrow and just see how my body feels throughout. Thanks again
