Ah well, it was nice while it lasted! ๐ Enjoyed my two run sojourn consolidating and promptly felt my foot complaining again! Doc thinks I initially pinched a nerve and now Iโve added a touch of sciatica to the mix! ๐คช She reckons 3-6 weeks rest plus physio if need be, followed by a gentle return... not the 28 min runs I did last time!
So, we live and learn, I hope! ๐คNow Iโve got over the, โWhat if I can never go running again!!โ melodrama in my head, Iโm feeling a bit more philosophical....
Think of all the yoga you can do!
Itโs better than 6 months off!
Youโll appreciate it even more when you get back!
But, ultimately, itโs still, are we there yet??!!! ๐

I know how that feels after my 16 days off after week 8 run 1
I also initially had the 'ill never run again ' thought ! Luckily things got (slowly) better .
I had 2 osteopath appointments and I now have an appointment with a sports physio on Tuesday who is also a multi marathon runner, that should be interesting ๐ฌ he probably does 5k as his warmup routine haha
It's good you are now feeling philosophical about it !
I think once you can accept that you need time out then you can deal with it.
Good luck with the recovery, the runs will be all the sweeter afterwards ๐๐
Aw, thanks so much Instructor57! ๐ Really made me laugh when you said about your physio doing 5k as a warm up routine! ๐คฃ Great to see a runner though! Youโll be in good hands there I should think. Be interesting to hear how you get on too! Yeh, last time I was so miserable and thereโs no point, you just have to suck it up and get on with it really! ๐Now Iโve snapped myself out of it, I also really need to get into a more regular yoga routine. Iโll lose all of my fitness if Iโm not careful! Will keep reading everyoneโs posts for inspiration though. ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ข
Yes, some of it does, but you only do what youโre body can do at any moment. ๐ I would research teachers in your local area and email them and see if any are doing any classes over Zoom, or similar. Good to get live instruction to start and nice to have the option to join the class in future. ๐๐
Thanks Birdlady64! ๐ Yeh, definitely got carried away in my rush to get back! ๐Iโm lucky really, as the doc initially said 6-12 weeks rest but then she said I could include the 3 weeks rest Iโd already taken. Every cloud.... ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ข
Ic is rotten. Been there a few times! You'll come back stronger and really appreciate the running! Take it slow when you get back. Key thing is to avoid any return to the IC
Injury is frustrating, but exacerbating an injury by returning too early is foolis, so you are doing the right thing.
I recently had nearly a year of no running after a knee injury, so I sympathise but also urge you to be cautious coming back and be extra careful........you will return.
Thanks for your wise words and encouragement IannodeTruffe! ๐Your example is also inspiring and puts things into proper perspective! In the meantime, I will tread carefully! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ข
Oh no. I sorta know how you feel. Since starting C25k in May Iโve had to stop 3 times for ankle, knee & now hip issues. And every time Iโve thought โoh no, Iโm going to lose all the hard work Iโve put inโ. But actually each time Iโve come back feeling stronger in some way coz my body needed the rest. Admittedly it was a max of 2 weeks, so your recovery time is going to be longer. I love my yoga in between times, and youโll get stretchier, stronger & bendier whilst youโre recovering. And if you have to go back to C25k, then enjoy the journey. Remember how great the improvement felt back in those days! Thereโs no rush..... just be kind to yourself and do whatโs right for you at the right time. Iโve gone back to v slow 30 mins run, but am seeing gradual improvement each time I go out & that feels good. You will too. Be patient. Weโre all here with you whatever stage youโre at!
What a lovely post 58soon, thanks so much! ๐ Yeh, youโve been through the mill too, thatโs for sure! Glad to hear youโve recovered from your last ailment and are on the mend again. Loved ๐what you said about getting stretchier, stronger and bendier! ๐Sounds great to me!๐ Iโll see how my recovery goes but, youโre right, if need be Iโll happily redo C25K as rehab! Would be fun actually! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ข
Oh no, so sorry to hear that โน๏ธ I'm sure you will be back, the physio will sort you out ๐ do make sure you don't rush it. Good luck with your recovery, we're all rooting for you and waiting to read more of your wonderful posts ๐ค๐
Thanks so much Beatlesforever! ๐ Canโt believe I let passion override common sense! ๐Luckily, I know a retired physio so will get her advice. In the meantime, going to behave myself, enjoy my yoga and keep cheering everyone on from the sidelines! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ข
