Expected the news from physio but it’s not great. 🙁

I’ve been suffering on and off, more on than off though, from pain in shins. Ive been putting off going to physio, for fear of what I’d hear. But today was THE day. I’ve been resting the ol’ legs and just recently been doing short slow runs, but I knew that things weren’t really getting better. Knowing I was seeing physio today I had a 3k run yesterday. 🤔 Why do that? You ask, well... just in case she said to me don’t run!! She has! More rest, exercises to do and then slow gradual rebuild of running. So, yes there’s hope ... I need hope.

I have two options. Give up and feel glum. Or use the positivity I’ve gained from running to see me through this set back. I know from this forum I’m not alone as others are experiencing similar.

It is for now a set back. I’ll exercise this summer, enjoy walking and gardening, maybe even re-attempt to engage with my bicycle! 🤔 hmmm, maybe not the bicycle 🚲 usually ends in tears!! And then probably start C25K again in the autumn and 🤞🏻get back to my 10k point.

Sorry for the ramble! 🏃‍♀️

Forgot the best bit - lovely physio said she was impressed that I’d started running at my age. And you know what, I’m ok with that and I’m determined to work hard at getting fit for running again.

Happy and careful running to all.

While I’m sorry to hear this... reading it shows me how determined you are... you’ll be back at 10k later in the year for sure. Part of becoming sporty is accepting that we will get sporting injuries from time to time... here’s hoping that this doesn’t keep you out too long. Keep up some cardio while you’re out as well as strengthening and flexibility work. Lots of seated cardio workouts in googleland to keep that fitness up while you heal.

Thank you. Yes I’ve got a determination that has only come from running and I’m going to use that to return. Pre running I didn’t have that sort of resolve, so I owe it to running to use a strength it’s given me. And yes you’re absolutely right, I’ll work on maintaining my cardio fitness too.

We love our Phyisos...:)

Not the best news... but a positive result..you will run again..you will stay fit...do what you can to keep moving and be back on track soon.

So many of us have done as you are about to do...it can be hard and frustrating...but we get there. I did a HM in March...but now.. after time on the IC trying to build back to 10K..

Well done you...for thinking ahead in a positive way and your determination to run again.

Your journey to recovery from the point you were at has been encouraging me to address the issue and recouperate and rebuild. It’s just another challenge! I’ll work hard to get there. 🙂

Well done for facing up to your fears and making that appointment. Sorry the news is disappointing but it sounds like you will be able to get back to running before too long and are planning to keep fit and active over the summer so it's all going to feel OK when you come back.

Like you I had some time out to recover from a dodgy knee, but kept religiously following the discussions here, so never lost the feeling I was part of C25K. So don’t go anywhere! Best of luck with your recovery.

Ah yes.... I’m currently ‘resting’ trying to sort out Achilles pain after reaching week 6 run 3. That was a few weeks ago. Visited a sports physio on Monday and had a calf and hamstring massage plus advice on various exercises. Almost unbelievably, one day later the pain has all but gone 😊.

Going to step up my general fitness regime (lapsed slightyin the last week) then start the programme again back at week 1. And I’m ok with that.

Good luck getting sorted out.
