Week 2 run 1

Starting to hate running less now, I can definitely see the improvement I have made and how much easier it is to carry on running when there aren’t hills. On two of the stints today I actually wanted to carry on running, however I didn’t because I know the timings are in place for a reason and I what to improve slowly over time. The only issue I was having other than the hills is my breathing pattern. Any suggestions? I feel when I run counting to four as the audio today suggested seems too much for me, my lungs can’t hold that much air comfortably when I run. I’m guessing it’s just because I’m really unfit?

Well done and as for breathing I’m on Week 6 and am still not sure I’ve cracked it, just go really slow and I’m told the breathing will come with time and practice. Good luck and keep up the good work

Well done on getting this far. I’m sure you’re not far off loving running. I’ve just completed W6R1 and can’t claim to have nailed the breathing yet so I’m not sure it’s vitally important as long as you are actually breathing! All I can say is that my breathing is becoming less erratic the fitter I get so I guess it will come with time and fitness. Keep up the good work 👍🏽

Thank you! Yup I’m still breathing 😂 which is always good I guess! I’ve definitely seen some improvement, so I guess overtime it’ll work itself out!

I laughed at the first sentence of your post, and remember feeling the same way at the end of December when I started c25k.

The programme is brilliant and does work, however the one thing I couldn't get was the suggestion on breathing technique. I would say though not to worry about it at all, just run and slow down a bit if you're struggling to breathe.

After a while I stopped even thinking about it, and trust my body now when I know I need to slow down.

Another thing that is important, especially as you progress through the programme more, is to drink enough water every day. Even on non run days.

Well done on your progress so far, and keep up the great work.

Haha! Thank you! Water consumption has always been a massive issue of mine, I know I don’t drink enough problem is I don’t get thirsty 😂 I’ll have to get into the routine of drinking anyway and hope that I get into the habit of it.

I am also just relying on my body to breath for me, it’s done well the last 24 years 🙈 hopefully it’ll all work it self out soon with practice!

No worries, and I know what you mean it’s also not normal for me to drink water if I’m not thirsty..but I’m slowly getting used to it now.

Sounds like your body is doing a great job with your break so far 👍🤣. You’re right it’ll all work itself out.

I am doing the same run tomorrow, I found the last run of week 1 really hard. Although I dont ache as much today. Is the change to week a big jump?

Not at all! I only really noticed the extra 30 seconds when going up hills! The time goes surprisingly fast :) Have fun!

Well done! I'm one run ahead of you for now.

The breathing is just a suggestion. You can breathe per every 2 or 3 steps. The point is if it's a help and a reminder to breathe properly, it's not the gospel (that's a saying, I hope! I should google what the gospel.is before writing this but..)

Good luck with run 2 of week 2...!

Haha! Thank you, yeah I realised it was only guidance but thought it was of I was only able to breath on like half as much as suggested!
