Week 8 Run 2

Week 8 Run 2 I decided on a new route which was alot more hilly than my flatter usual run. Legs are killing today but I ran the same distance as I did on week 8 run 1 ..I dont run too fast . Should I revert to my old route or push on with the hilly one ...the scenery is way better than running around a field anyway ?? And are my legs hurting more because I was using different muscles because of the hills?? Thanks all ...love this running thing now

Hills will use different muscles, yes! Hills are really useful training tools, but if you were following a plan it would probably suggest hills just once a week or less. I'd probably run your normal route for the next couple of runs, then go back and conquer those hills again. It's always good to mix it up - good physically, but good mentally too. Good luck and enjoy (and well done on braving hills so early on).

Thank you great advice. I did revert to my old route . Better for now. Would you say grass or road is better ? I find i run faster or further on the road ..thanks again

People say grass is more forgiving than a hard surface like tarmac, so easier on your joints. On the other hand, grass tends to be uneven so the risk of slipping/tripping/landing awkwardly and injuring joints that way is higher.

Most people run faster on tarmac - but of course that's not the aim of this program 😀

Stick with the hills for quicker fitness gains. I have done the whole C25k off road, with hills and very uneven ground. I would say keep the hills in. When I first started I could barely get up the ‘tough one’ if it coincided with my 3 or 5 mins running or whatever, (seems so long ago!!) but now I sort of breeze up the hills. Hills and uneven ground make you fitter faster in my opinion as it’s harder work!! Go for it!!!! 😀

Thank you for the great advice...I certainly enjoy the hills and will be including them in my runs ..perhaps not as brave as you yet but I will get there ..loving it
