So I tried the couch to 5k this morning, unfortunately I failed, did warm up, ran and walked first 2, but I struggled after second run, still had 17 mins left. Bit annoyed with myself. Was quite stiff as I am most mornings, maybe need to do it later in the day. 😕😫

Was so annoyed with myself. Need to be less stiff before I start, I’m so overweight, stretching is hard.xx

Well done for getting started! That’s the hardest bit. Don’t give up. Just give it another go after a rest day 🙂

Do read the notes to the right of your screen (sticky post) as it gives all the info to accompany the programme. 👍

The best tip I could give is to do each session really slowly. No need to rush any of this Easy does it Smile too! It helps 😃

You started running and that's terrific! If you read through posts on this forum you'll find lots of initial posts just like yours - and now a lot of them are c25k graduates! If you need to build up fitness by doing some brisk 30 minute walks first then that's OK. But for most of us the key problem is that we go too fast in the beginning. I run just a tiny bit faster than my brisk walking pace and that got me through the programme. You might find that you can manage fine if you just slow right down!

Check out this link to Japanese Slow Jogging - its fantastic! Keep posting and keep going - we have a great cheer squad on this forum.

Thank u for that, I think my jog was slower than that, but some helpful hints in there. 😊😊

Not a fail - you went out and ran, so give yourself credit for that!🙂

Chances are, as the others have said, you went too fast. Take those 'run' intervals at a very slow steady pace.

Here is the link to the 'How to Run Couch to 5k' post which will give you lots of tips, information and hopefully answer a few of your questions.

As for the time of day - even after 5 years of running, I still run better in the late afternoon! I l do sometimes run early-ish(!) but it always feels a bit harder!! Others find they run better first thing - I guess it is about finding what works best for you. Certainly, in the summer, early runs are so much cooler.

Either way, good luck on your next run and remember than many others have had to repeat these early runs too in order to build up their fitness - you have started on the journey!👍🙂

Thank you, I think I’m just too stiff in the morning, normally have a stiff sore back for a while after I get up. But just think it’s better to get up and try and do it in the morning. But I will play it by ear and see how I get on.xx

Longish post alert! We don’t permit the fail word Lanabear so don’t feel bad - you got up and you got out there which is more than you did the day before, right? So take a rest day tomorrow and then try again. Do the walking bits as briskly as you can and then on the running segments, run slowly! And that means really slowly - it might be slower than your walking pace (mine was!) but that doesn’t matter. As long as you have both feet off the ground you’re running! If you feel you need to repeat a run, then you can , there’s no-one watching and you can take as long as you like! Try going out at different times to find your ‘best’ time - I usually go out as soon as I get up but I usually have a small cup of water and half a banana before I leave the house and I always do some warm up exercises to get things moving! Stay well hydrated, even on rest days- it will help prevent you feeling as though you’re running on tree trunks. Check out the Japanese Slow Running clip on YouTube, it may be what you need. And check out Iannoda Truffe’s pinned post for newbies which you’ll find at the top of the Page - it gives you everything you’ll need. And finally, don’t forget to post your progress - you’ll get loads of support here and if you have questions, someone will have an answer for you! Good luck!

Thank you so much, everyone is so supportive on here. I have watched the video clip about slow running, it’s quite helpful. Is there an app for this as I’ve having to go into my original email and go on a link on there.xx

I’m not aware of an app I’m afraid - it’s a question of remembering what they’ve done when you get out there!

I read it's easier on the breathing if you run when its warm rainy wet cloudy or wind less.

Dont give up yet, try again in a few days
