I finally got to run in one of my favourite places today. I walked part of the route this morning with my dog Isla to check how it was drying out post flood. You can see in the photos of my run the bit I didn’t check out on my walk!! Needless to say Isla needed washing off when I got back! 🐶 🧼
I can run from my home out onto the local heathland common and the surrounding woodland tracks and trails. These usually form the basis of all my running routes but they took a hammering during the storms and wet weather. Navigating them soon became like a full on assault course with stretches of a tough mudder run thrown in. Jumping fallen trees and leaping ever-expanding puddles, which joined to make swamps, became a bit of a hazard!
I found alternative routes in my local area, which inevitably moved me onto roads, pavements and paths as they were accessible. These were still lovely runs through nice places, but not the undulating tracks I have been used to.
So this run was special today. A lovely Mother’s Day treat to myself - a run in one of my favourite places. It was a bit tricky in parts and cool in the wind and shade, but other stretches were lovely. I still covered a great distance in the time I had, so I can’t be happier than that. This is where I’ll be for my final run 😊🏃♀️ hopefully in the sun again ☀️.
