Week 1, Run 2, Attempt 2.

Nailed it this morning! Though not without my usual comedy of errors ;)

Woke early, as per my new regime, and peered out of the window to check on the weather... windy and rainy.

Now, I'm not worried about a bit of bad weather, in fact I was quite looking forward to it, however, kit wise I wasn't sure what to wear. My last outings were in a thick(ish) pair of "fat pants", a fleece, and a beanie hat. I figured if they get wet through I'd double my weight and probably end up with my jogging bottoms around my ankles by the end of my run...

I hunted for a pair of shorts, garish holiday shorts... nope, denim shorts... nope, swimming shorts... erm, bit too short. Perhaps if I wear the pair of waterproof bottoms I bought for my last failed cycling fad over the swimming shorts... maybe.

I'd also bought some calf compression sleeves to help with the pain I felt last time I tried, so picture if you will, heavy legs, compression sleeves, skimpy swimming shorts, uncomfortably covered in figure hugging waterproof pants that make an awful swish swish as my thighs rub together. Lovely.

So off I set, glad it was early enough on Sunday morning for most of the world to be sleeping. Michael's turn to talk me through it today, 5 minute warm up walk almost over, the rain very abruptly stops, the wind dies, and the sun starts to shine... oh that's just fantastic!

For the next glorious 25 minutes I manage to successfully complete the whole run looking like a plastic wrapped Michelin man, very sweaty and very hot due to the completely unbreathable trousers. Despite the circumstances, I was very pleased with myself and actually enjoyed it.

My calf still hurt a fair bit, but with a Japanese slow jogging pace it was bearable (my running pace seemed slower than my brisk walks between 😂), I think the compression sleeves helped.

Time to get some (cheap) gear, I'm not bothered about getting wet, I was more bothered about getting weighed down in sodden cotton clothing.

Now to find a running shop and beg an assistant to sort me out.

Really looking forward to run 3 now, I just hope it doesn't rain too much for me before I can get more suitable clothing.

Happy happy happy 😎😁😉🏃‍♂️

Great run... possibly an even better run report... had me laughing out loud, wife thinks I’ve gone crazy!

I started my journey in swim shorts, and ran in shorts for 18 months. I bought running tights in autumn ‘18 and they’re still hanging in my wardrobe with the tags on. Recently though I’ve discovered that there are also running trousers... not so much self consciousness as tights with them. They’re great, and will apparently keep me cooler in the summer than shorts. They were a whole £13 from Decathlon and are their “run dry” range. They’re not waterproof, the dry they refer to are for their sweat wicking properties, which also means when they get wet from the outside they dry pretty fast. They do do a trail running pair of waterproof trousers, but I like getting wet as it’s so refreshing when it’s hot and I can find some rain to run in. I’d highly recommend them, especially after my first wet run, they’re very light.

Hi Simon...ive never ever run but am now w6r2. w1r1-3 it was sore knees...w2 it was sore calves and w 3 it was sore shins...but by w6 these have pretty much faded. The calves thing for me was that i was bobbing too much...so my ankles were rotating too much so my feeble calves would turn to barbed wire. Slowed down...level head and now, w6, they're fine. Now to sort out my shins! Bring on the next challenge...ho ho.

Keep at it!

Oh your post did make me laugh. Well done for getting back out there. My first run I snuck out to avoid snorts of laughter from family only for them to fall about laughing when I got home disheveled & sweaty to find I had my leggings on inside out & a label for a tail
