Week 4 - bad knee

Hi

I have reached week four and really badly damaged my left knee. To the point where I have now had to stop running. I’ve pushed through the last few sessions but then have been getting severe pain plus it’s now all swollen. I really want to carry on running, any advice out there? Thank you

Any intense pain and we stop running. There is clearly a problem and it needs time to resolve.

Maybe because of the time frame, go and get it checked out my a medical expert or a Sports Physio,,, then there are depending on the diagnosis, many exercises to help strengthen those knees.'But do go and get a diagnosis first.

The runs wait... always x

Oh so sorry to hear this, Rach. 😕 I know it’s a bit late to say this, but you should never push through any pain when running. If you have a pain somewhere, that’s your body’s way of telling you that something is wrong.

You might find that icing it will help with the pain and swelling - a bag of peas wrapped in a tea towel works nicely for this. Also, go see your GP - or better still, a sports physio. They will be able to diagnose your injury and give you a recovery rehab plan if needed. Knee injury can be caused by so many different things and it will take a medical professional to work out why.

Do not run until you are totally pain free! I know you are keen to continue the programme, but running on an injury can put you out of action for much much longer. You can return to the plan again - it’s not going anywhere! Many people start it, and for one reason or another have to go back to week one if they have to take some time out. Most important thing is to get your knee sorted and get yourself strong to start again.

Hope you feel much better soon. 👍

No problem. And please don’t let it get you down. I have come back from so many minor running injuries in the last 2.5 years. 👍

Sorry to hear this. Sports physio is my advice, they really make a difference.

Don't lose heart, a good physio will treat the injury and identify the cause.

You'll get back there, you just have to be patient.
