Ok I am going to be doing a 20 min run tonight and it is literally filling me with dread! It seems a bit leap from 8 mins, does anyone have any advise they can give to me?
Week 5 run 3: Ok I am going to be doing a 20 min... - Couch to 5K
Week 5 run 3
I did my run this morning, I thought I couldn't do it but I did! You can do it, don't think of it as you're running for 20 mins, just run at your own pace and before you know it, you're all done. As everyone keep s saying it's more of a mental struggle. You can do it! Good luck ☺️
I thought the same when I did it last week... but it was actually okay ! Just take it slow, at one point I think a fast walker could have passed me! 😂 I felt really good at the end. Today I’m doing week 6 run one which is back to run/ walk I think that’s harder in some ways...🤷♀️
Good luck 😉
Good luck.
Really though, you're not making the leap from 8 minutes to 20, your making the the leap from 2 x 8 minute runs with 5 minutes brisk walking (i.e. 21 minutes of exercise) to 2 x 8 minute runs separated by a 4 minute run (i.e. 20 minutes). You may find it easier if you consciously break it down like that and run the middle section at a slower pace than the other two.
Hope that helps, but I'm sure you'll smash it however you do it.
You know *Week 4* was the hard bit don't you? That was the biggest jump in TOTAL running in the whole program from 9 minutes in Week 3 to a whopping 16 minutes!
Now that you've done W5R2 (well done!) you now have 157 minutes of running under you belt. Surely enough to ready your body for a 20 minute jog! W5R1 is a total of 15 minutes running. W5R2 is 16 minutes, so 20 minutes is perfectly doable, as *thousands* of users here will attest.
Remember my mantra: every run you've done prepares you for the next one, It's very simple but true. As ever with W5R3 worries... it shows (as said above) the body is ready but the mind is not! Yes, your body has been prepared for this... as it has for every run so far.

All in the mind mate....the programme has your body all set for this...just keep your mind occupied on anything but counting down the time or it will be a grind.
Hey guys I just wanted to say thank you for all your advice. I completed it today and I am really proud of myself 🎉🎉
