“That” run

So I’ve been reading about W5R3 and didn’t think I would ever get this far. I was meant to do it yesterday but storm Ciara got in the way. I nearly talked myself out of doing it tonight, but I went out, and do my complete amazement I kept on going and did it! Can’t understand how it was only a few short weeks ago walking and running for 60 seconds on these roads seemed so hard and I just did that!!

I’ll be honest though, it’s tinged with a bit of “it doesn’t really count as I was so slow”. I’m talking 10 minutes a km type of slow. My heart rate is up and I know I’m working hard but when do I start to push the pace and risk not completing the runs?

Well done on that milestone run.

Stick with the easy pace......it builds stamina......speed can come later.

Go at whatever pace is most comfortable for you. Trying to push yourself could undo all your hard work.

Well done :) Not great conditions for it either (although probably better than yesterday!)

I'd keep it slow, sounds like you're working hard so will still be making progress, you can up the pace later (I'm not even there yet, graduated but still at the "just keep going" stage!)

Great job.

You may have heard of a guy by the name of Eliud Kipchoge... amongst his many achievements, he’s the only guy in the world to run 26.2 miles in under 2 hours. That equates to 4:35 per mile... which is phenomenal in anyone’s language. That’s his race pace... on other runs, I’ve seen him talking about one, he runs 9 minute miles... almost half pace. He does these slow runs to build his endurance, just the same as we run nice and slowly to build ours. As I always think, if it’s good enough for him, it’s more than good enough for us mere mortals! Ok, we don’t run 4:35 miles, but all things are relative! Keep the pace nice and easy/slow when you’re building endurance, and your body will develop faster.

Happy running.

That's really interesting. Dont think I'm ever going to do a 2 hour marathon or even a 2 day one 😂 But good to know all the same

I can’t even run half as fast for any real distance... when I get sub 2 I’ll be very happy.

Oh, and for me that will be for a half marathon 🤣

Thank you everyone, I think maybe I am expecting too much a bit too soon. Let’s see where I am in 5 more weeks, the improvement in the first 5 has been amazing. I am just really struggling to think of myself as a runner!

Stamina is so much more important, speed is overrated 👍🏻😉 well done, that's a milestone 😊

Well done to you Kstie3456 on completing run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run with C25K, it's the run once you have completed, apart from being very proud of yourself you know that you will be able to complete the course, onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3 which you have just ran 🏃🏾 😊

Well done Katie - it’s a great feels isn’t it when you just keep going! Don’t worry about speed, slow is good at this stage - I graduated in August and still regularly do a 10 minute km. If you’re running it all counts, whatever speed you’re doing! Onwards and onwards!

You don't push until (1) you've graduated and most importantly (2) you've got used to running 30 mins, 3 times a week. That could take a month or 2. For now, 10min/km is absolutely fine!

Carry on and good luck!

John

PS well done and good job on W5R3

Thank you! I would be giving up if it wasn’t for you lovely people motivating me and making me appreciate that I am actually achieving something by plodding on! 😀

Well done 🎉👏💪 Be proud!

I will echo what everyone else has said about speed. Not many people graduate this program running 5k in 30 minutes, so don’t be hard on yourself 😊 your doing great 👍

Hi Katie remember the hare and the tortoise? Doesn’t matter how fast you go as long as you keep running. Well done Roxy
