First run after injury

Well I’m finally back after three weeks out due to an injured knee!

I had completed run 1 of week 9 so only had two runs to do so it was a but of a blow, especially having to watch others graduate who had started at the same time as me. But it could’ve been worse...

I wasn’t sure where to start but decided I’d try w6r2. It felt hard! But not too hard so I’m hoping I’ve pitched it right. I think I’ll do it again (maybe more than once) before moving on, I’ll just see how I feel next time. I know deep down I’m glad to be out running again, but at the same time I feel like I did in the first week when I really had to force myself to go! I’m glad I made notes about my runs so I could read them to remind myself that I was really starting to enjoy it so I know I will again 😊

Well done it’s good to see you back 👍 it must have been so frustrating to find outside events pushing the goal that was so close that bit further away from you 😤 but you’ve now done your first run again so just go easy and W9 will be there before you know it 👍🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Thanks 😊 I intend to take it slowly so the injury doesn’t flare up again. 🤞

Thank you 😊 I think I’ll have 2 days rest between runs for the first free to see how it goes

Thank you 😊 it’s amazing how just those few weeks out have made it so hard to get back into it... must go for another run today to get back into the habit

How are the consolidation runs going?

Getting there!! Bit stuck on 30 minutes and bit more if I really push hard. But enjoying the freedom of trying different runs ! You’ll be there soon!!!

Aw thank you 😊

I really am having to force myself back into the mindset which I wasn’t expecting 😣 I suddenly feel like I don’t have time which is crazy

They are going well. Still running every second day. Would be nice to get a 10k under my belt but 6.5 is the best so far 😫😫

WorkingathomeGraduate in reply to Thismumcanrun74

Oh wow 6.5 is great! It’s not that long since you graduated so you’re doing really well! I know we aren’t supposed to ask this sort of question but how long is it taking you to do 5k our 6.5k?

Thismumcanrun74 profile image

I do tend to stick to 5k most of the week. I go for a longer one over the weekends. My 5k runs are normally about 30-35 mins. The 6.5k ones are taking me up to 45 mins. I have had enough by then 😂😂

That’s great! I have a friend who has been running for years, five half marathons etc, and she is only slightly under 30 mins. Stick at it and you will maker it to 10k! Have you tried the 5 to 10k programme yet?

Thank you. It’s hard work and some mornings I think I leave my legs in bed but I keep going through the good and bad. No I haven’t tried that programme, thought about it but I’m too scared 😂😂

😂 I bet you were scared of C25K to before you started it though 😉

It’s great to chat with someone from before my injury... it felt like you had all reached the goal and it was a bit lonely being left behind. I know there are sheets others coming through but I don’t feel the same affinity 🤷🏻‍♀️

Absolutely! It took me months to start C25K. I can imagine how you are feeling. I took a few steps back sometimes but the main thing is you are and will be finishing this. You have come so far and should be so proud of yourself. Truthfully I don’t think I would have done it if I had an injury. I’m pretty proud of you 🥇

Well done for getting back to it. You may have lost a little fitness but what you haven't lost is the knowledge that you can do this! Try run 3 next and see how you go. You might surprise yourself!

WorkingathomeGraduate in reply to Fionamags

Thank you 😊 I know Run 3 is a long one so I think I might repeat run 2 again just to ease me in a little more gently

Great that you’re back out there again. I injured my knee 3 weeks ago but am still on the IC 😏

It’s so frustrating isn’t it! Look after yourself and try to be patient and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you’re soon back running
