Hi all, new to the forum!

I’m 26 year old mum of 2 and I’m following slimming world, almost at target. I have been wanting to do exercise that fits round my family. So today I started couch to 5k, I really enjoyed and found it wasn’t as hard as I thought. I really want to do run 2 tomorrow but it says we are meant to have a rest day.

So I’m looking for advice... is it ok to go again tomorrow or am I pushing it too much.

(Ps I suffer with anxiety and I’m hoping the running will help clear my head a little too)

Thanks

Rach

I think everyone will agree that it's best to follow the advice and take the rest days, they are a key part in the whole C25K program,

I'm the same tho lol i have the urge to run without a rest day but I'm sure we'd do more harm than good,

Congratulations by the way for starting, you've done the hardest step 💪👍

Oh thank you so much for your reply.

I completely respect the rules of the app and the advice but I have the urge.

Think I will stick to them tho and just get out for a nice walk with the kids in the big double buggy (that’s a work out in its self! 😂)

😂😂 that sounds like a better plan, it'll soon be Monday and then you can go for run 2 lol that's what I keep telling myself 😊

Definitely have the rest day 😊

A nice walk in the fresh air is fine, but the rest day is for your muscles to repair. You don't want to risk injury 😊

Good luck with your next run 🏃, it's great for your mental health as well as physical 💪 👍

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

When you run, the impact creates microtears in your muscles, which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. Without rest, repair and strengthening are compromised and injury risk increased, which is why rest days are crucial.

Enjoy your journey.

Rest days are non negotiable. Enjoy the anticipation of that next run. Headspace while running especially with little ones is special time, enjoy it. You will learn a lot on this plan, including patience 😉 happy running

Take the break. Follow the program.

It really works.

If you push it and get injured or find your body isn't as fit as you think and you don't complete the runs, then that could be a serious setback.

Stick with it and you will be fine.

Well done. I started on New Years Day and also have anxiety and it has really helped. Taking a rest day is really important as you are beginning being to use muscles you havent used before. Though I have wanted to run again the next day as enjoying it but have stuck to the programme x

I agree with the others, stick to the plan, by all means go for a brisk walk tomorrow but give your joints time to adapt you don't want to get an injury.
