Not to run every day?!?

So on the C25K app it says to have a break in between.

Sunday I did W1R1 plus another 2 mile walk on top, Monday I walked 4.5 miles, Tuesday R2!!

In my head I’m telling myself to give myself a break tonight & go back out Thursday to do R3.... but then I’m telling myself to go out running tonight 😬

My shins & hips are a little achy 🤭

Hi potato on the move. It’s good to be enthusiastic about c25k but make sure you follow the program and have a rest day in between running your body will thank you for it. Any other low impact exercise is fine on rest days. Good luck with c25k.

Cue lots of replies telling you how important the rest days are 😂

It’s really tempting to want to run but apparently rest days are when your body repairs the tears in muscles etc (I’m not a medic or an expert!). The danger is if you don’t give yourself time to recover you run the risk of getting an injury. You can do lots of different exercise on rest days just don’t run.

Well done on the enthusiasm but take care. I’ve found it helpful to designate set days for running and to stick to them as much as I can.

Happy running and resting😊

Congratulations on starting C25K BUT you must NOT run on consecutive days, that is to avoid any injury, running two days in a row is definitely not allowed, however, if your shins and hips are a bit achy you can take two days off running, drink plenty of water every day and run it a little slower than you did today.

Hey there,

Have you had chance to read the guide to the programme? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It is super important to observe the rest days although that doesn't mean you can't do anything, you just shouldn't run or do high impact training on those days. Walking is fine, as is cycling, swimming etc.

Depending on your previous levels of activity your body is going to have to adjust to these new demands. Creating the required muscles means that small micro tears occur during development, which require the rest day to repair and develop properly. Without the rest you're putting too much stress on these areas which puts you at risk of injury which may impact other areas of your life, not just running.

If you're feeling achy ease up a little and slow things down whilst your body catches up.

It's great to be filled with enthusiasm to do more, it's just important to choose what to do wisely 👍🏻😊

If you ran on Sunday and Tuesday then wait until Thursday before running again.

Every time you run, or exercise, you create micro tears in the muscles, the rest day is required to ensure these micro tears have had enough time to heal and minimise the risk of injury as much as possible.
