First run completed!

This forum is so motivating! I was going to wait to the new year to start running again but after reading everyone’s posts this morning, before I knew it I was out of bed and running round my local park.

I didn’t really stick to the app, when I wanted to run I ran and when I felt I needed to stop I briskly walked, the run was very up hill down hill and I’m definitely feeling it now. Did anyone else find that they didn’t always stick to the app? I ran more than 60 seconds at some points and walked less than 90 seconds also.

Hallelujah for this page 🙌🏼🏃🏼‍♀️ X

Really well done for getting started. It's a huge step!

Do stick to the program though. It's so, so important. Its tried and tested and, as lots of us on here will testify, it really works.

The other thing to note, is that the rest days are even more important than the running days. So even if you feel like going out again tomorrow, hold that thought!

Good luck and let us know how you get on

You are so right, I definitely will be sticking to the programme, I’ve woke up with very tight calf muscle!! No running for me today!! Thank you!! Happy new year! X

I'm no fitness expert, but that soreness- that's your muscles adapting themselves to new demands. Try doing some dynamic stretches before you run (helps prevent injury) and some cool down stretches when you get back (helps prevent soreness).

Happy New Year to you too. X

Well, I didn't stick strictly to the app in the first week or so because I was reasonably fit when I started, but it soon caught up with me and I decided to do as I was told after that. As Mig says, it's a tried and tested programme and it works!

Don't get carried away and go too fast at the beginning, take it slowly. Remember, you don't get fit running, you get fit on your rest days as your body repairs itself and adjusts to the new demands - so treat rest days with respect. Take two if you feel you need them. I always did, but then I'm ancient 😉

You sound like you enjoyed yourself. Keep going. 👍
