OMG??!!

So, for the first time ever in my WHOLE life, I ran on the pavement, IN PUBLIC!!! If you read my first post this morning, I was dreading it...but, as I fastened my laces with determination, I spoke to my trainers & said "we are going to do this today, ok?"...so I closed the front door behind me, opened my Musicon app, put on my 'running' playlist...and then turned on Michael...

His soft voice was telling me, again, the goal that was in front of me & I am SURE he said at the end "I'm not doing this run with you again Bev" so I set off on my 5 min warm up walk...before I knew it it was time for my 3 min run...nailed it..easy...running past MacDonalds made me feel somewhat healthy!!! Back to walking...90 seconds goes soooo fast!! Ok..ready for your 5 min run? Ok I thought here goes...kiss, kiss, kiss go my feet on the pavement...steady and slow...I was very conscious of myself when I ran past the car wash where I go, they gave me a wave...I'd have rather they sprayed me with their jet washer!!! Then the plumbers merchants where everyone knows me!! Then the chemist where my friend works!! Ok..2.5 mins in and I'm flagging...oh no? I thought, I'm going to stop...& I did 😩 FFS...what have you stopped for??? I walked for a whole minute then I started to run again and finished the 5 mins...I was gutted, the hard word I'd had with my trainers hadn't worked...ok...so I made the most of the 2.5 minute run...next 3 mins...seemed to take for EVER...the bloody app had paused (serves me right for peeking!) it was still on 2:57 and I must've been running for 2 mins, so I walked for 30 secs and set off running till the next walk...90 seconds...ready for my last run, for some reason I felt strong...so I set off..I ran, and ran and ran..I did the whole 5 mins...I was aiming to finish the last 5 mins in the park where I usually run and that's what I did...I could've sat on the wall and cried with elation!!! But instead...I walked...for about 10 steps...and I don't know if it was because I was in my familiar territory or because Iggy Pop came on in my ears but I set off running..and I ran to the end of the song...another 5 minutes 12 seconds...I was like Forrest Gump!!! I don't know what happened...does anyone think I'm ready for week 5 yet??????

I would say so when I did my week 5 I think I was still using the timetable I had downloaded along with my wristwatch that had a stopwatch on it so didn't have the benefit of encouragement but did it anyway so if I were you move on and keep up the good work if it doesn't feel right you can always redo it.

I would give it go, you've nothing to lose, if you don't make it it's a practice run, but looking at your post you'll manage it!

Go you for running outside and seeing everybody, makes you feel good doesn't it πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Well done - pavements aren't scary!!

I would give week 5 a go and see how you get on - the reason for stopping probably wasn't physical anyway so you just need to push on through the urge to stop next time. You can always repeat week 5 run 1 if you don't manage it all.

I started with the app but I kept having issues with it pausing or not going back to the music so I switched to the podcast. Laura's choice of music isn't brilliant but at least the pausing problems stopped.

Oh yes!!!!! Wow!

Well done you.... you did it and had it all in there too!

Car washers, dog-walkers...plumbers...friends in the chemist...and the whole world out there... you showed them all!!!!

Ruuuun...Mummmmmmyyy ...Ruuuuuun! :) x

Think you have done well especially to run past people you know. I used to look st people running along the pavement in public wishing I had that confidence. And now here I am, just on Week 8, running round the streets of my neighbourhood!! Not a care in the world if they see my wobbly bits, red face or comment on my jogging skill. Really enjoying it (never thought I'd say that 😳)

You will have Michael's dulcet tones in your earoles, the guys at the car wash, the peeps at the plumbers merchants and your friend in the chemist all willing you on. You only need to go nice and steady. Job's a good un

Have fun! πŸ˜ƒ
