Week 8 Run 1

Dear fellow runners,

I am so disappointed...I didn’t manage to complete this run! I keep finding excuses for it:

- it was too hot (I ran at 12.30);

- my app paused without me realising it so I didn’t know my remaining running time;

- I went on a different route (perhaps I should stick to the same route?!?)

Let’s face it, I only ran for 26 minutes instead of 28 because I was feeling exhausted.

Not sure what to do now...I feel I need to complete the run fully before moving on but worried to fail again! 😞

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, we all have runs which don’t go to plan, so don’t worry about it. Just redo the run when you’re ready, perhaps in a couple of days and maybe earlier in the day. I prefer to run in the morning when it’s cooler if I can.

I wouldn’t vary your route if you’re used to it, unless it’s particularly difficult or something has changed with it. You’ve already proved to yourself that you can run it after all.

Have another go when you’re ready, slow down if you need to and think how you’ll feel once you’ve managed it🙂👍

Good luck!

Thank you David!

I will redo the run at a different time. I hope it was just a one off bad day.

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

As a runner you need to drink a minimum of 2.5 -3 litres of fluid each and every day, running or not, as mentioned in the guide.

Have a rest day, hydrate well and fully, as per guide, and give it another go at a cooler time of day, possibly on a familiar route and with a good dose of positivity.

You can do this.

Thank you very much. I definitely need to drink more water and will try and run at a cooler time of the day.

Yep totally agree with what David said 👆. I had to repeat a week 5 run quite a few times, so don't be disheartened. But make sure you complete it before moving on to the next run. Rest for a day or two and get back on it 😉

Oh my lovely! I’m no expert (by a long run!) but I’d say don’t beat yourself up about it! You do 26 mins! Think back at how far you’ve come and be proud of what you’ve achieved!you still added another run under your belt and that must count for something (if just the calories you burned!)

I say, well done, give it another go at a cooler time and give yourself a huge pat on the back! Xxx

Thank you so much. You’re right, I need to look at my successes (8 weeks ago I couldn’t even run for 2 minutes in a row!!!) and focus on how to move forward. Lovely support from you and the C25K community...it really helps! Xx

Go out early in the morning, I run at 6am. To run 26 mins in this heat is an achievement in itself 🥵....an early morning run in the cool clean air....you’ll do it no problem 👍

Thanks! I will redo this run earlier next time - I’ll motivate myself to get up at 6!
