Missed runs

Anyone missed a couple of runs out? Week 6 run 3 and week 7 run 1? Both 25 mins. I had been running with my daughter but had an Injury so took a week off. Back out with her today and we both did week 7 run 2 which is also 25 mins. Would it make a big difference if I just continued the runs with her and just tried to fit it an extra run here and there? Just to add I managed to complete the run comfortably by just slowing down .

Also I’ve already completed the program early on in the year but on a treadmill 🙂

We really do advise completing each and every run to ensure your body is ready for the next step up when it comes.

Could your daughter not just do a couple of extra 25 min runs with you before the next increase? It certainly wouldn't do her any harm and would reduce the chance that not doing those runs might negatively impact you...

I started off in a group and we are due to run the park run on the 21st of December so didn’t want to be too far behind them on the last run. That’s why I was trying to keep up with them

Listen to your body. If it complains at all, drop to a brisk walk. Just take it steady.

It's up to you, but it does really build stamina doing all the longer runs, especially as you've missed a week, which will have dented your progress a little. You could still run with her but just finish your run before she does maybe?

I wanted to do the park run with the running group we started off with on the 21st hence why keeping up with my daughter. I’ve already completed the C25K on the treadmill early on in the year.

You’ve been through this before, you know what’s coming. Listen to your body - carefully and if in doubt go back to missed runs. An injury before your park run would be such a shame

Thank you. I will do 🙂

The whole point of a gently progressive training plan, such as C25k is that you gently condition your body to the demands of running.

We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, missing runs is putting you out on your own. Injury can stop you for days, weeks or months, so why take extra risk.

What is the hurry?
