So here we are, the morning after the start of week 5
I have to say, of all of the runs to date, this was the one I enjoyed the most. And when I say enjoyed the most, I mean hated the least
So i got home (evening runs are becoming a norm) and I was up for it. Almost excited for the challenge of three 5 minute runs. In fact, in the lashing rain, it was the 3 minute walk I was looking forward to the least.
And finally, I listened to you lot, I listened to me and I listened to my very supportive wife. Within 30 seconds, I recognised I was going too fast and slowed right down. And I made it. In fact, the most satisfying part (apart from finishing) was the feeling that I didn't struggle at all. Well, maybe the last 60 seconds up that blooming steep hill
So come on you 20 minute run at the end of the week, I'm gonna have you for breakfast. I do need to remove that hill first though
Huge shout out to Snowgdss too. She really did not want to step foot out of the house last night. Even had a little tantrum about it. But she still got the gear on, got out into the torrential rain and did the run. So very proud of my wife. Well done.

It sounds like you are beginning to make the association between enjoyment and pace .........fast is hard and only relished by those with a masochistic streak......... steady gives you a chance to appreciate your surroundings and builds stamina.
Well... I have to tell you that hills are really great for you... I had to practice running on the flat before I did my first HM... I run faster going uphill than I do on flat terrain... I still do
Well done to both of you, you're making good progress.
If you can persevere with the hills it will make you a stronger runner in the long run. I live on a hill, in a hilly area so everywhere I go means coming back up π€£

I've been looking at treadmills. I dont think I'll enjoy c25k on one, but I look out and see icy pavements and snow falling, it might be a good option. Or I could just get more clothing and running shoes with better grip
Having the same debate myself. There is a gym across the road, so am probably going to see if I can use one if it gets that bad, not keen on ice!! but because I am on the coast it rarely gets icy here, too much salty air, so it will only be very occaisional.
I believe we're getting a gym across the road too. However, it's still a field at the moment π.
Might just try to be brave and stick it out this winter. Whoever thought I'd have decisions to make. It used to be easy. Couch, or run. Couch was always the winner ππ
One of the loveliest runs Iβve done was in early December last year. It had just started snowing when I left. Big gentle flakes settling on the pavement. Passed my wife walking the other way with the dog. She laughed, I carried on running up the Glen. It was beautiful, track covered with 5cm of soft clean white snow with no other tracks. Trail shoes gripping well I carried on up to around the 150m mark before descending the other side of the Glen. Still no other tracks in the snow and Iβm looking increasingly like a running snowman πββοΈ βοΈ. Down the Glen, back through the village and home to be laughed at again as I shook the snow off me before stretches and hot shower. One of the few runs thatβs really stuck with me. I enjoyed my breakfast porridge!
I must admit, after running in driving rain, I'm less worried about what's hitting me. I can imagine running in a snow flurry is really quite relaxing.
It's the underfoot bit that I worry about. But the roads around me are fairly well trodden, I'm sure it will be fine
