Does anyone do any other exercise? I love my treadmill and tend to do an hour a day, plus I hike most weekends, would a bit of yoga help, with stretching and avoiding injury?

Thanks peeps!

Hi Twizzyjojo. I do yoga and pilates (not the one with the machines). I've found it really helpful - not just the stretching and flexibility, but also with strength, particularly core strength and legs. I had a break of 3 months from running, but kept doing yoga & pilates, and I think that's one of the reasons that I could come back from the break and start where I left off, because I hadn't lost strength. So definitely, give it a go. I do some cycling too, though less when the weather is bad, and usually only once a week.

Thanks, we’ve had a exercise bike at work this week, local completion between remote offices, I had a go yesterday. Not a fan........ 😂😂

Think I’ll give yoga a go, got a couple of dvds so wish me luck!

You're better at self-motivation than I am. I did try at home but ended up joining a class as I knew I wouldn't keep it up. Good luck and enjoy the downward facing dog!

I do stretching on non run days and sometimes walk, but nothing strenuous as it’s advised to rest or do low impact only. Yoga is one thing that’s recommended (I think) on non run days 😁

I've seen a few people on here do yoga on YouTube by Adriene

You need a couple of rest days during the week to let everything repair, that way you will become stronger and fitter.

I use a treadmill and I also do a bit of resistance training, push ups, lat raises, squats and a lot of glute/leh exercises wearing ankle weights, I also run wearing ankle weights.

You need to take rest days, they are very important for progress.

Yes... and a big yes to yoga... and yes to walking... and yes to anything apart from high impact work. So, as long as your feet aren’t off the ground at the same time repetitively you’re good to go. Whatever you do take up, start easy and build up just the same as the running.

Strength & Flex is a good programme to do along side this... we even have a forum here for it.

I do S&F, some varied workouts on Nike Training Club and some other bits and bobs.

I like swimming, but having said in a few replies that I swim on non running days, I actually often do it on a running day. I swim on Sunday and Wednesday, but I run every third day, so they often overlap. I actually think I run better after a swim; my muscles aren't as tight and my head is in a better place. Maybe I have a future career in triathlons 😅

Hi, I too do walking, Adrienne yoga - she has specific sessions for different things, I'm using runners yoga just now. I also use some nhs routines for warm ups and runners stretches, lots of dynamic stretches pre runs. As already mentioned go on strength and flex forum for links. Good luck, you need whole body strength not just legs
