W2 R1 - Harder than expected

After loosing both grandparents and a friend at work only 10 years my senior having a heart attack I decided to make some changes. Gone from a static 12 hour a day job with no exercise slowly putting on weight to starting C25K and having 2 personal training sessions at the gym per week. Personal trainer is great and is working my gym training to compliment my running. Just competed W2R1 and found it harder than expected that extra 30 seconds of running made a lot of difference!

Make sure you slow down and slow down again. You’ve made the right decision. Stick with this forum as the support is fantastic.

That jump from 60 to 90 seconds is big and feels like forever the first time by the end it will feel short

Loads of advice on here about slowing down and hydration take heed all who have run more than a week and a bit have been where you are now

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Well done on starting the programme. Keep posting so we can encourage you on your journey! The golden rules are slow down and when you’ve slowed down, slow down again. Also make sure you’re well hydrated - ideally 2-3 litres every day. Very important to keep hydrated on your rest days, that will make your runs easier. Good luck!

As everyone has said, keep going and slow down. I have just finished week 5 and every time I struggled, I focused on slowing down my pace and it worked. It allowed me to keep going. And today I ran for 20 mins solid. This running thing does get enjoyable, just focus on keeping a steady pace. I have noticed that I am beginning to gain some speed unintentionally, so I think that comes as you progress. Well done for getting started on week 2
