Planning my first run since graduating at the end May.

I graduated at the end of May and was full of beans then after a night away we came home to find the kitchen, dining room and conservatory flooded with water. A leaking pipe. All downstairs flooring has been replaced along with the Kitchen. Any excuse I said to my wife!!!

No more runs during the summer due to the leak and other things but returning from holiday yesterday I'm now ready to start again.

Any advice on where to start? At the beginning, part way through, or ?

Its just a shame that during the summer with lovely evenings and mornings I didn't run and now autumn is about to start I'm starting to run.

First one planned for Saturday so I have the full day to recover with pampering from my wife.

Try to jump back into say week 3-4, see how you go, if you're ok with that then do week 5 1&2, week 6 1&2 before moving onto the longer 20+ minutes of running.

That's what I'd do, after I went on holiday earlier this year I did week 5 run 3 but I'd only been away 2.5 weeks.

Thanks for the advice, Week 3 sounds about right but the body will tell me!!

Sorry about your kitchen and flooding, as you have not been off running for more than 4 months, week 3 would be a good week to restart your running.

When I was off running for a few months during the winter I restarted at week 3.

Sounds like week 3 maybe the one to go for

It's an escape listening to music and the heavy breathing!!!

I recently restarted after a five month break due to injury and I went back to W1R1 and am working right through, to reaccustom my knee to running.

In that time I have suffered muscle wastage and a certain loss of cardio fitness, but I could have easily picked up at W3, maybe W4, That said, the gentle progression from the start is certainly the safest way to get back into it.

Take care.

Don't feel too bad about summer running - I always find it too hot and I come back like a flipping beetroot! I would start at W3 and see how that feels. You probably won't have lost enough fitness to need to go right back to the beginning.

That sounds a nightmare 😭 poor you.

A nice little jogette (very slowly) for a walk/run of maybe 10 minutes to test the legs and see how you feel. If you can do more, do more then build up from there.

Thanks for all the support. I did Week 3 on Saturday and the second run this morning (at 5am) I'm an early riser!! No rain up North and 16C so pleasant. The first 90 seconds was wow this is easy although after the las 3min run it was erm maybe take it easy. It felt good Onwards an upwards as I reach 60 in December.
