Time to get my act together once and for all

I’ve just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and from being over 2 stones more I want my body and mojo back, I generally worked out 4/6 times a week so I’m finding it very difficult being so sedentary. And the weight is piling on. I miss my old life. I loved being active but chronic joint, muscle pain and chronic fatigue are so detrimental

My wife has fibro, chronic pain syndrome and arthritis, she's just started the program too, just take it slow and steady,

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

In the past, others with fibromyalgia have reported improved pain relief by running.

Enjoy your journey.

I have similar issues and admittedly for many years C25K genuinely would have been out of my reach, but menopause brought some slight improvement. I was finding attempts at brisk walking unsustainable and several things attracted me to C25K - firstly the emphasis on *not* doing it every day and second the gradual build up. I am so glad because running involves so much less pain, at the time and in the days, weeks afterwards, than a brisk walk for me.

(I was also hoping to lose weight, and I did, 20kgs... right now it is creeping back, mainly because my canine running companion has gone blind with a syndrome which I think is affecting her more widely. I burn few calories because I run slowly but it does make a difference)

If you were previously active you may need to unlearn quite a bit. I'd also suggest seeking out surfaces where the impact is more varied - I really notice the difference on tarmac and pavements and it's not great. I like a nice woodland path - plenty of mental stimulation avoiding the roots!

I have fibromyalgia too and this programme has certainly worked for me along with other things .

I do have most of my life back !

I couldn’t get out of bed but now I am up at 6.00 and trotting away (70yrs old) .

Finished Wk4 !!! You can do this along with the fantastic support in this site

That is so inspiring to hear thank you, yes getting out of bed in chronic pain is certainly the way it’s been for me. Thank you so much for your kind words xx

It is even harder when in pain but your determination will get you through - you may even find your pain lessens . I give myself two days between because of recovery time but

Exercise in a pool and do Tai Chi in between - it has helped me recover considerably. Keep going 💪

Great decision JoJo👍 Trust the plan...drink plenty of water every day not just run days and slow 🐌 as you can. Say goodbye to the couch and head out the door!

Thank you, it’s been so wonderful receiving all these messages it has really given me a lot of incentive. I live in the coast so may make my way down there and give it my first go slowly though 🐌🐌, slow and steady wins the race!

I have Fibromyalgia too just take it really slow and have longer rest days if needed. I’m feeling more energetic since I started and just being outside improves my mood 😊 good luck!!!
