Week 4 Run 1 was awful!

I’ve just completed Week 4 Run 1 and it was so difficult. Part of me wonders if I’m even going to complete this week at all! I was able to run the first 3 mins and 5 mins absolutely fine, and then I started to struggle and was unable to complete the last 5 minute run. I stopped after 60 seconds. I’m hoping I’ll be able to run the whole 16 minutes next time but based on how this run went, I definitely won’t!

The best thing to do is repeat that run, but have a extra day off running, drink plenty of water the day before you run and run it a little slower than you did today.

Are you running too fast? I think there’s a tendency to run faster than your brisk walk - that was a huge mistake for me. I got puffed out so quickly. So learning to run slowly was key for me. And then I discovered the Japanese slow jogging technique! It’s a low impact style of running designed to avoid injury, and completely sorts the breathing out.

Even if you think you’re running slowly, you can waste a lot of energy running with poor technique. I first saw this in w6 and wish I’d found it earlier. It’s worth watching a few times to get it all. The landing and short stride are the key to it.

I still run this way as it makes the running pleasurable while you’re doing it. I’ve lost 5 1/2 inches from my waist & haven’t felt so fit & strong in years. So it definitely works!

Hope this helps. Shout if you have questions!

This is the one thing that keeps me going. If I start to struggle, I remember this video and just start tip-tapping along the road, one footstep at a time. Body straight as a telephone pole, look up, shoulders relaxed, it really does work.

Simply slow down...If you struggle...then slow down even more:)

It’s a shame you are feeling bad about a run. Some can feel very challenging. It’s not a competition though so take it real slow. Repeating the run after a good stretching and recovery day might help. Our bodies do adapt though 👍
