Hi I’m new to this running lark but wondered what apps people use to track their route so that loved ones can monitor progress and see if you stop or get into difficulties whilst out and about? I’ve heard of several such as Mapmyrun or strava but which is best, cheapest, simplistic to use, not too draining on battery life etc. Any tips appreciated. Thanks all
Running Apps to track your route : Hi I’m new to... - Couch to 5K
Running Apps to track your route
Strava has a beacon, but it’s a premium feature... obviously if you ever need it it’s worth every penny. Not sure if there’s a free option. All trackers are fairly heavy on battery, not in themselves but because they activate full GPS, which is what eats power... there will be negligible difference in the apps. I generally go out with a full battery... and when I start to go over an hour I’ll buy a watch to track... and turn location services off on my phone.
Most apps are free unless you add race plans and other premium features. Nike one then stays free, but as yet there’s no beacon on it.
Every app I’ve seen has been fairly intuitive.
I use MapMyRun, just the freebie version. It’s upgradable to add more features, but none seem relevant to me. MMR tracks my route, distance, time, splits etc. It’s accurate as far as I can see too. I have my music linked to it which is nice.
There are lots to choose from, just a little shoutout for MMR! 😀
Hi DianeU, before I bought my bran new 📱 Smartphone which can have all the running apps 🏃📞under the ☀ sun, I used an app on my old 📱 phone while running🏃 the C25K program. It's not an app which is mentioned on this site but I found it just as accurate💯 as the better know apps such as Strava, Mapmyrun, Runkeeper etc, this app told me distance😝, duration, pace and speed, the app is still on Google Play as I could download it to use on my new phone, try:RUN-LOG.COM, according to my old phone it only uses 12.67MB😊
Ok lovely. Thanks everyone I will look into those and see what’s what! Cheers for the feedback 😊
Hi DianeU, i use this one (for hiking and navigation, etc):
