and I have hurty knees. Not sharp, stabbing hurty, but achy and slightly weak "I might give out under you" hurty. I intend to run; it's the 'solo' run as the work group does Mon & Thurs so if I'm to have a 'rest day' before Mon it has to be Saturday. However, online chum who had had hurty knees said mate had followed her and remarked she ran with her feet sticking out from straight. She worked on running with straight feet, and knee pain disappeared. My "normal" is feet at 10 to 2. And I can see, theoretically, how this puts a torsion on the knee muscle arrangement. So I shall try running consciously aiming to keep my feet straight, and we'll see what happens. I'll let you know.

Week 2 run 3 tomorrow
Knee pain is very common in weeks 2 and 3. Plenty of ibuprofen worked a treat for me especially an hour before running. It went in a week or so. It may be the same for you as it happens to many. You may need a gait analysis too and some support running shoes for over pronation 👍🏽
Fab, thanks. You're not the first to mention Ibuprofen. I just want to get through the first few weeks and to the point where the muscles will build rather than announce their shock at being asked to work by resenting it.
Oh, and . . . .
Well, the things you find yourself thinking sitting on the loo.
Normally, if at home, my spectacles are on the mantlepiece.
If at work, on the desk.
I generally use them for distance work or very close reading (varifocals), and the laptop screen is fine without.
But I was sat on the loo, lower garments nestling coyly round my ankles, and unusually with my spectacles on, when I looked at my lower leg and thought
"I seem to have put weight on my calves".
My trousers also seem to fit - shall we say, a little closer? - on my thighs.
Surely not? I only started 11 days ago.
Oh goodness the different sore bits, they come and go. But I’ve used plenty of ibuprofen gel on days off and run days. Just done w6r3. Still got a niggle at the top of my right leg, but my knees that were rather loud are much quieter.
I found I had pains like cramp in the early weeks. Told to eat a few bananas a day and the potassium helped so have kept having them and no pains since. Also plenty of fluids as well. Run slow and steady. Good luck.
My knees hurt a lot for the first couple of weeks but it’s eased off now. My feet also turn out naturally, but I would be wary of trying to force yourself to run with them at a different angle to be honest as you can injure yourself trying to make your feet turn in a way they don’t naturally face. Knee pain and shin pain is very normal for people who have just started running; you’re making your body do something new and it will take time to adapt.
I’d definitely recommend getting your hair analysed too. I went to Up And Running on Deansgate in Manchester and they did a gait analysis for me. Despite lots of runner friends confidently telling me that because I have low arches and turned out feet I absolutely MUST be running a certain way, it actually turns out that my gait is neutral and all I need from running shoes is plenty of shock absorption, none of the arch supports or anything that my friends all claimed I’d need to avoid injury! So be wary of advice from mates if they are telling you to run in a certain way that isn’t natural for you.
