Chuffed but scared!

I've just done week 5, run 2 - running for 2 x 8 minutes, and I did it! Can't describe how chuffed I am. It's actually taken me 5 months to get to week 5 - setbacks including a cataract op and a back injury, but I've also repeated some weeks over and over, not believing I could do any more. I went out tonight thinking I'd try 8 minutes, but if I could only do 5 then I'd just repeat week 5 run 1. When I got to 5 minutes I just kept going and now I know I can run for 8 minutes at a time! 20 minutes next time still seems unlikely, but hey! so did 8 minutes a couple of hours ago. My 5 minute cool down walk didn't quite get me back to where I started, so then I ran another 2 and a half minutes just for the sheer hell of it. Was that silly?

Well done! You should be chuffed! 😎 You may surprise yourself with R3. It’s a real turning point on the programme. It’s easier than you think. Make sure you are very well hydrated the day before your run, keep it real slow. Discorunner posted a link to Japanese running and it’s really helpful. Quite a few on the forum use the technique. You’ve got this. Trust the programme and if you think you’re going slow go slower. Happy running 🏃🏼‍♀️ and keep us posted.

Thank you. Slow has been the key. Early weeks I tried to go much too fast - I now go really slowly - I figure I can try speeding it up when I can actually do it. And breathing - I have to really concentrate on breathing to stop myself doing panic breathing. I'll have a look at Japanese running though - intriguing ...

You should be well chuffed.

And I truly believe you can do week 5 run 3. The programme has been working you up to this. Trust it. Nice and slow, as OldFloss always says, slow and steady.

Come back and let us know how it goes.

So well done. Don’t worry about run 3. Sounds like you’ve done lots of preparation to get to this point. Forget about the time, plug in and keep running until you’re told to stop! You’ll be surprised how each of those four 5 minute blocks just tick away. Good luck!

No that’s not silly - seize the moment! Fantastic that you have pushed through the setbacks, that is brilliant. Believe you can do it because you can! I never felt ready for the next week, but you ARE! Go, go, go! Xxx

I think we’re all a bit scared when it gets to run3 in wk5 but you’ll be surprised, you can actually do it...the plan has built you up to this point and it’s not as bad as you think. I actually punched the air when is done it, was so happy. Definitely google Japanese slow running, watch a video on it, I tried it and it really helped, slow and steady and well hydrated is the key. Good luck 👍🏻

Thanks everyone! I'm actually itching to get out on Thursday now to see if I can do it! Mind you, I'm still in bed at the moment - haven't tried my legs out yet to see if they still work after yesterday. Watch this space ...
