Wk4r2 - reminder to self:follow the plan

Today I ran wk4r2 and found it considerably harder than run 1. I have myself to blame. I decide to deviate from the plan and yesterday instead of having a rest day i decided I would just get on the treadmill mill and run in my impatience to progress. I ran for 13 minutes though felt I could probably run longer and then did my scheduled run today. I realise this is foolish and rest days are important to reduce chance of injury. My legs and knees are hurting so am definitely going to take the rest days as advised. On the plus side, I did run for 13 minutes so I don’t feel so daunted by week 5.

Well done for the longer run, but as you said please, please, don't run on rest days. Between runs on rest days I have a strong desire to go for a run, I love running, but however much I like it, I don't want to up the risk of injury.

Congratulations on completing your second run this week, I wish you all the best for your third one!

Thank you. I need to resist the urge. I think part of the problem is that I’m becoming addicted! Never ever thought I’d say that!!

Good learning... that’s training too... the more we learn the better we can run. Yeah, that 13 minutes was awesome and you paid the price today... but it’s not as bad as it could have been, you had a tough run, but you could run. Stick to the plan and keep that injury risk down. Learn the lesson and all is good... and at the back of your mind just remember that you know you can do those runs when they come. Enjoy closing out week 4

Thank you. I do feel more confident as I approach week 5. I’m still shocked that I can run more than a minute as that was a struggle a few weeks ago. Looking forward to the next run....after a rest day or two

I still have nightmares about that first 60 second run... yesterday I ran 70 minutes! It’s amazing how quickly we progress... just allow your body time to keep up with your mental strength and you’ll go far.

Well done on learning that crucial lesson about rest days, hopefully without having done any damage.

I think I’ve got away with it this time and learnt a lesson. Onwards and upwards looking forward to the next run

Well done on getting this far. Next time you feel the urge try some strength and flex exercise safe in the knowledge it will make you a better runner :)

In the pinned posts there is a section on what to do on your non running days 👍

I feel the same on my non running days, but I make sure to do something else (resistance training and walking, usually) knowing it will support my running and help me long term. It helps when you think of it as just part of your running training plan, not so tempting to try to run. Although sometimes on the walking bit I have to be quite stern with myself not to break into a jog! :)
