Thwarted by foot cramps today! So frustrating, was absolutely fine breathing wise and doing really well but on my last 5 minute run both my feet went into cramps after a few steps. I eventually finished up by having a longer break, and a lot of stopping and starting but very frustrated I couldn't just do it.

I'm wearing the same trainers as always, with bespoke insoles fitted to my feet and running socks so not sure what happened. The sensation only came when I ran, and subsided immediately when I stopped so god knows, maybe my shoes were a little tight?

The main thing here was that I was mentally ready to do the whole thing. I am really excited for my next run on Wednesday as I'm determined to get it finished all in one go. For me, a lot of this has been about a mental block rather than a physical one so glad to have addressed this with the 5 minute runs.

Really glad I've pushed through to week 4 and ready to get this programme complete!

N.B. I write these posts purely as a track of how my journey is going, to look back on when I complete the programme and share some of how it's going. They are in no way guidance for your own runs or suggested methods, I am just sharing my own experience.

I'm no expert but think tight laces could be a problem. I make mine tight up by the ankle to reduce heel slipping but want them looseish particularly at the base of the toes so room for expansion. Another suggestion would be some foot/ankle exercise before running like foot circles and heel and toe moves? Are you drinking enough water?

Good luck with your continued progress (but no need to rush it).

Thanks for the feedback! I did actually have quite loose laces but I thought the same thing... I actually just slip my shoes on each time so don’t tighten my laces. I generally drink 2l a day and take a 500ml bottle out with me, so hopefully getting enough pure water (not counting coffees, water in smoothies etc).

I’ve done some googling and it looks like it could be due to being a new runner so going to take a 2 day rest, will definitely try some new foot stretches and see how we go! Thanks so much for the feedback and thoughts.

I'll give it a go! Thank you

Water with a bit of salt in is good for cramps.

You might need to find out how much salt you need.

I hope you will be OK with it 😀
