(Sorry in advance) Bowel Movements Query!

I’m on Week 8 of C25K.

When I’m running I’m fine but the days after the run feel like I’m constantly going to the loo for number 2’s.

After stomach cramps and ten minutes on the loo I’m fine for an hour or two. Is this normal?

If you have any medical problems with your running or after the run it's better to consult your doctor.

Of course. Just wondered if anyone else had a similar thing.

We all remember the Paula Radcliffe moment during the marathon, this is a common thing. But what about the days after a run?

As AlMorr says anything you are worried about check it out. Running is very good at getting the blood pumping all around the body, that includes around the digestive system so it can set everything moving if it has been a bit sluggish in the past, but always best to double check if you are worried. No, not worried p. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this.

It is very common, usually while out on a run, which causes some embarrassment for some until the body adjusts and you find out which foods suit your own run.

Good point. I’m starving all of the time! Might try restricting some food groups, thanks.

No need to restrict food groups, just try a different meal before a run. Some prefer easy to digest carbs before a run. Me, I like a high fibre breakfast and then run 1.5 hours after, I prefer to run before my lunch. If it happening more on your run days have a small snack before your run and have your bigger meal afterwards to see if that helps.

I run on an empty stomach usually. Sometimes first thing in the morning. At weekends it’s mid morning or mid afternoon and evening runs tend to be after 8pm.

I restrict fluids before running, otherwise I need to stop for a wee!

Not heard the Paula Radcliffe story but just looked that up. I’ve just been desperate to go while on my run but obviously not running as far as Paula so managed to make it home in time. 🥴

Exercise is really good way to get people going to the loo regularly maybe this is just your way 😊

Thanks, I thought that. Sounds like I’ll find my rhythm, so to speak!

Sorry to hear this. I haven’t noticed any change in Bowel movement, I wonder what it could be. Have you changed anything in your diet?

No, I don’t think so. Might keep a diary though.

And well done on reaching W8!

I cannot see that a short run would impact on your bowel habit days after.

I think any change in bowel habit is worth mentioning to your GP.

A short run to you perhaps, a significant effort for me! I’ll monitor things for a few days and see what develops. Thanks.

Didn't mean to dismiss your efforts, I was more focused on the changes in your bowel habit.

Sometimes we make connections that aren't there. I still would recommend a visit to the GP.
