Who isn't running the 5k in the 30mins run? I've just completed week 9, run 2 🙌🙌 so I'm very pleased with that, but I'm just doing over 4k in the 30mins. I know its not necessarily about the distance, but I'm curious to know how others are getting on? The fastest I ever did 5k in a few years ago was 34mins, if I get to that I'll be chuffed.
Am I the only one...: Who isn't running the 5k... - Couch to 5K
Am I the only one...
I did week 8 run 3 this morning and kept going a little longer so that I did 4K in 29 minutes 30 - so no way I’m going to get to 5k in 30 minutes next week, but I’m really pleased with what I’ve achieved so far as I hadn’t done any exercise since 1986 - I’m not sure I’ll ever get to 5k in 30 minutes but I guess just need to keep practising
Here is a link to one of the polls on this forum. It will reassure you:
healthunlocked.com/couchto5....
Only 10% of new graduates cover 5km or more during their graduation run.
If you look at this poll healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... you will see that less than fifteen percent of graduates manage a sub 30 minute 5k by graduation.
You are doing great.
Nope, you are definitely not alone. Most of us (about 80-90%) don't manage 5k in 30 minutes at graduation. My best time for 5k is a shade over 38 minutes. I knock the odd couple of seconds off my time here and there, but I'm in no hurry (see what I did there) to get down to 30 mins (if I ever do).
I graduated weeks ago and still don't run 5k in 30 minutes! I can run 5k but in 36 minutes and I'm fine with that
Definitely not alone! My last run was 3.45km in 31 minutes, according to mapmyrun. That's my longest one yet.
You are doing really well! Don’t worry. I finished 9/3 with a 5K park run finished in 46’48”. Leaves you loads of room to improve on that, but , you know what? I am delighted.I started running in March to improve my health. The TV news tonight is full of the health benefits of being outside. I feel fitter and sleep better. suits me. If anything else happens, then Great! I am now running three times a week, improving my foot position, breathing and the other basics, and running just a few metres further in the same time. I use Laura’s podcast still and am in my head on Week9 run6. Just concentrate on happily running for 30 minutes! Enjoy your runs.
No you are not the only one! You are one of 90% who don’t quite reach 5K in 30 mins. But that’s OK, that’s why you can consolidate after this challenge and build on distance and speed but you have to treat them as separate targets, either aim to run for 5K regardless of time, or aim to run for 30
Minutes regardless of distance.
Actually this probably needs a faq post of its own.
Thanks! Totally agree, now I'm a couple of weeks post graduating I've been focusing on building the distance. I've been running 5ks the last couple of weeks, looking to increase that slowly. The app definitely has taught me how to build my endurance, speed while at the back of my mind, isn't too much of a concern (except for whether I can fit it in before work!)
