I was horrified to discover yesterday, when doing W3R3, that I only covered just over 2k! In 30mins! I can't imagine I will get anywhere close to 5k in 30mins by week 9. Is anyone else out there as slow as me? I know we are meant to take it easy but some people could probably hop further and faster!!
Only 2k! Any hoppers out there?!: I was... - Couch to 5K

I am exactly the same. I have just completed my 3rd run of week 9 but I haven’t covered anywhere near 5k like most people who do the course apparently. So now I’m seeing 5k as my next goal and having read all the posts on here I know it’s achievable. Keep going!
Thanks! I did the run in the gym on the running machine that's how I found out. That's a good idea, treat 5k as the next goal! I have got lots of excess weight so that doesn't help!
I have seen many posts reassuring us that most people do not achieve 5k by the end of the program - C23 and a bit K doesn't sound so catchy! The good thing about not reaching 5k by W9R3 is that you have a goal to gently move towards when you are consolidating post graduation. 😄
Oh I know that feeling. I was in week four when I took out my phone and put the gps on. I thought I was flying and I loved the feeling when I ran. It knocked the stuffing out of me for a while, but please don’t follow in my footsteps and let a little thing like pace get you down, running is much more than speed, it is freedom, exhilaration, fun and good for you. I am still slow and I will always be a back of the pack runner (that is what I prefer to call myself) but tomorrow I will get up at 6am put on my running gear and go into central London to do my first half marathon of this year and I am beyond excited. Your pace will change as your progress on your running journey but never let it define you as a runner.
Good luck on the hm - at least it looks a little less icy now
Hi Ajay, I 'd better practice my hopping I don't think I can go that fast! 😀
You have reminded me of my early weeks of C25K when I used to dread being overtaken by dog walkers! It never actually happened, but it took a while for me to feel confident that it wouldn't.
Don't think about pace & distance- they both will improve without you thinking about it. The program just focuses on the number of minutes that you have been running for. You are so much faster and fitter than the people still lying on the couch! Enjoy your running adventure! 😃
RELAX everyone 😂😂😂😂
We did a Survey here last year.
LESS THAN TEN PERCENT GRADUATE WITH 5K DISTANCE ☺
Y'all are RUNNING. That makes you RUNNERS. ☺ Some of us won't win the Boston Marathon but we sure as heck are beating the world Couch speed records Every. Single. Time. We. Run.
Now, take it all slow and steady and sensibly and keep it fun also - it's not "Couch to Bataan Death March" or "Couch to feeling bad I can't outrun that Bolt chap". If any of us had ever figured we were "able to run" we'd have been doing it years ago
We run this programme because it works for us - and it's fun We also might be running on our own, but thanks to this Forum we don't run alone We are in this together and we are all doing something that is actually, on a certain but very real level, far harder than what the genetically gifted Mr Bolt does - we run also to the best of our ability but without the "acclaim" of the masses. ☺
I was asked once if I "glad" I could run.
Yes I am - and grateful. And rather proud of myself that as Turtle-creeping, lung-exploding, leg-excruciating, foot- torturing and Gremlin-haunted as it can be on any given run.... I run anyway. ☺ THAT makes me and the rest of us REAL Runners ☺
A Jay 99, I check the distance zip ran in wk 5R2 and it was only 1.5 miles, at first I was gutted but now just think I'm doing my best and hope I will get faster
