Week 5 run 1

On monday I ran the 1st run week 5 and was my worst yet I was aching struggling after only the 1st 5 mins then a battle to complete all three. Week 4 went so well so feel a bit fed up and worried about the big 20 now. It is the first time I nearly stopped running I had to drag myself to the end!!!!!!:-(

Week 5 is where you REALLY need to start to believe in your capability and in the way that the plan has prepared you physically up to now. I only finished it yesterday and I needed to try a few new tricks to win the mental battle. The 3 runs on day 1 seemed very long, so for run 2 I changed my route so I had something new to think about. I found that worked really well. Again run 3 was tough and I only managed half of it, so for my second go I made up my own 20 minute playlist and ran to that which was great and I completed the run relatively easily. I saw a post yesterday from someone who had visualised her long run beforehand which sounds a good idea too. From what you say, you seem well prepared physically, it will just be a case of finding what works for you to get you through the mental challenge of the longer runs. Good luck!

First of all, well done on completing the run, its hard especially when it seems to go wrong right from the start, you then have to dig deep in mind as well as body.

Secondly, we all have bad runs now and again, sometimes for no good reason, the best thing is put it behind you, look forward to your next run with a positive frame of mind. Good luck you can do it, take it steady and don't try to go too fast too soon.

Thanks guys run 2 was hard but much much better today, tried a different route as suggested and it helped and it was raining which strangely helped! My first rainy run. :-). Run 3 friday........:-/

Hey, that's great news - well done! Don't worry about run 3. You have done 5 weeks of physical preparation now, so stay in a positive frame of mind, stick with a slow and steady pace, be determined to enjoy it and you WILL get there. Trust me, if I managed it anyone can! Let us know how it goes won't you?
