Week 5 Run 1

I wasn't sure which run to do this morning, after struggling a little with R1&2 last week. Could repeat or start the week of doom! :D I decided that it was 1 minute less running than last week with longer walks today, and could always repeat one of them this week if it's too much.

Wow! Probably my most comfortable run yet! After facing the demons last week, had a bit more confidence (and some snazzy new socks) so tackled the same route. First 5 minutes was a steady slog uphill on a gradual gradient, but knew I had 3 minutes to recover after that.

The first rest walk seemed a little too long and was ready to go again after a couple of minutes, so decided to pick up the walking pace a little. I knew the second run would start on the steepest hill on my route, so thought as much of that as I can chew up walking the better! Started the second run, didn't feel as steep as last week, and knew it was all downhill once I hit the 1 mile marker to turn around.

Second rest walk seemed way too long at 3 minutes, felt about ready to go again after the 60-90 second mark, but felt fully refreshed at 3 minutes.

Last run felt great, almost couldn't believe it when Laura said "that's it"! and could have gone further.

Now that's the trick, that's what I've got remind my future self on Wednesday & Friday. I said "I could have gone further" ;)

Well done. Feeling like you could have gone further is great because it means the programme is working for you. Think how far you have come. I love those snazzy socks x

Thanks! Think I'm learning to control my pace a lot better now, and thinking less about how long I've got to go. Hah :) socks were a reward for reaching the half way point. Definitely felt the difference with them!

Love the socks . And treats along the way do help! My favourite was my Capri trousers. I'm sure they help me run further.

Hi sHAYM4N , ditto!!!! I did w5d1 this morning too and found it surprisingly easy as well. This is brilliant :-) I confess, my socks are considerably more boring than yours though.

Nice one! You do R2 today as well? Feeling more confident for Friday now than last week, but know it's still going to be a tough challenge :)

Should never have looked ahead, but just think now if I can tackle 20 minutes none stop, the last 4 weeks will all be about nailing the last 10!

Yup, w5 r2 done this morning. Definitely tougher than the first run this week. I'm psyching myself up for Friday - how can I possibly run for 20 minutes? That's more than double today's 8 minutes! That's probably the wrong type of psyching.

Haha yeah, I think it's better to look at it like you ran 16 minutes today, you're doing 20 on Friday. Will be strange without the breaks, but hopefully slowing down and taking it easy when it starts to get a little tough will help. Also will keep in the mind the feeling of achieving it at the end. Think this one can be classed as a mid-term graduation!
