I'm having trouble timing my runs in week 8 as I have to stop and pick up my best friend's leavings once or twice in a 28 minute run. I'm using Strava to time my runs, but it's frustrating as I don't really feel that it counts as 28 minutes straight, when I've had a pause. Thoughts?

Running with my dog
In our local woods where I run, there is a sign asking dog owners NOT to bag it but instead to kick or flick with a stick away from the path as it is good for the soil. Any chance you could do that where you run? Obviously it's not suitable for some places but in the woods it could work?
Noooo! Please stop and pick up your hound’s poo 🐕 I often run off the path and do not need shite to deal with 🙏
You just get quick at doing it (and so do they!) 👍
Noooo! Please always pick it up, don't "stick and flick" - that's just disgusting as it means people can still stand in it. I don't know who came up with that idea but it's crazy. The Forestry Commission had signs like that for a while too - yet they have foraging sessions, and children's activities in their woods. Absolutely disgusting.
wow dog poo good for the soil not heard that one before its not like horse poo they dont just eat grass and hay i thought it contained some disease that can cause eye problems in children kick or flick thats just disgusting stopping for a while to sort this is fine just add an extra minute or two to the end of your run.
Stopping for a mo is fine😎
Please please please take a second or 2 to pick up your dog poo, your dog and the environment deserve nothing less! Can you add a couple of minutes at the end to take it into account? Happy running!
I’m sorry but in my view, if you have a dog, you clean up after it, where ever you are
I totally agree...I have 3 dogs and if I did leave it (like the french do!) This village would be an awful mess now.
I know what Debston means about the signs too, as people are bagging and leaving the bags, not binning them, which is worse for wildlife....better for off road runners though. Totally agree though...stop and bag and take it with you to a doggie bin.
It doesn’t matter if you stop now and again.
You could try and see if you can get the dog to poop by walking him first, failing that do your dog walking and running separately 😊
That’s why I don’t run with my dog 😂
Well done for running and combining it with dog exercising. I guess training it to do its business before the run is a good idea, but that may take a while.
I’d pause your app and start again when you’ve done the deed.
This is not aimed at you but one of my pet hates is seeing bags of dog pooh at the side of the path or dangling on bushes. If someone goes to the trouble of bagging it up, then why not take it away.
If out in the country I’d rather it was just off the path to disappear naturally, than left in bags. Rant over
When I am walking, not running I often collect other peoples discarded poo bags. As a dog lover and walker it really annoys me too.
Me too
Gets me furious
Picking up after my dog is just as important as my run. It's not cheating its being responsible. I find I feel safer with my dog and I feel more confident.
Hi there, i have my dogs with me when i run as i combine their walk and my run together. I think it depends where you run. I run on tracks and newly wooded areas with lots of hedgerows.
I pick up the poo with a bag. Throw the poo deep into a brambly nettly hedgerow ( where noone would go) then knot the used bag tightly and put in my pocket to go in a bin later.
I think pausing in between will not interfere with your progress. Infact as seen in W6R1 interval runs are difficult after doing longer straight runs. Also, this unknowingly gives you pace variation, pauses etc which is beneficial. You may run for some additional minute to compensate the lost time.
🐶 Let him enjoy too.
People stopping to pick up after their dogs are the few I get to overtake on a Parkrun!
Stopping to pick up poo is no more cheating than waiting for the green man at a road crossing. Sometimes we have to stop, and sometimes you’ll be grateful for the excuse to stop and catch your breath!!
I run with my dog too but I find he does his couple of poops in the first 5 mins so I walk slowly with him till he’s done one, bag and bin then start my app for the 5 mins warm up, sometimes I have to pause it to pick up again but that’s what I do, pause and pick up then carry on 😁
If I have to open a gate or tie a shoe lace ect, I count how many seconds it takes me and add it on at the end.
I call the moments to pick up after my dog ‘micro breaks’ 😁. Sometimes I have them to adjust my laces if I’ve done them up too tight or to put the dog back on the lead. Micro breaks rock!
