W5R3 complete. Completely hooked on c25k!

Just over 4 weeks ago, I struggled to run for 30 seconds. With the help of a decent pair of trainers, the c25k app and some 90s dance tracks blasting away to keep my mind occupied, I ran 20 minutes solid this morning! I was excited yet nervous about this one but as so many have rightly said on this forum, the program increases stamina and fitness and gets you ready for the next stages. Having not run since school, I am absolutely hooked with this program.. just love, love, love it! Wearing a chufty badge with pride today πŸ˜€

If you're anything like me, you'll get even more hooked as each run passes. I was told by a runner friend that each run feels like the first (difficulty wise) but with each, you're getting fitter and you're stamina increases. Good luck with the remaining runs!

Congratulations to you Thegirlcandoit and will do it and has done it on running run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run with C25K. Onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs πŸƒ

Thank you! Saw other posts about week 6 catching people out... how is this? Just want to be prepared πŸ˜€

The muscles have got used to the long run of week 5 run 3 and they won't like going back to the walking breaks and runs of run 1 and 2 of week 6, but as long as you take them particularly slow and steady you will be OK, run 3 is back to running continuously, this time for 25 hours, sorry minutes.πŸƒ

Ah ok, thanks for that. Any idea why these two interval runs are put there? Just wondering what the benefits are. (Apologies for being clueless!)

Perhaps one of the mentors or administrators could answer that question, not sure, however, I am rerunning some of the weeks of C25K as part of my "runiversary season" last year when I was doing what you are doing, I kept ridgidly to the program, no missing runs or running on consecutive days, however, this time I am being a little flexible, this week I ran run 1 of week 5 on Wednesday, on Friday it was 5.2.

Tomorrow I am going to run run 1 of week 6, next Wednesday 6.2 then go back to run 3 of week 5, that way the distances I run are getting slowly longer, but don't you do it that way, keep exactly to the program as you are a first timer.

The following is just my opinion on going back to the interval runs.

It is more than the 10% jump from previous week and gets back to usual by W6R1. The W5R3 is just a heads up for what is to come in W6R3 and ahead.

This can also be used to ahow the importance of shorter runs. Many of us face problem in going back to interval runs post the long run. Once the program is complete, you may want to do long runs but you may find it difficult to do short runs, which would be weird. πŸ˜‹

Yet again, the above is just an opinion.
