I decided that I wanted to push myself slightly more and see if I could run further than 5K on my long run today.
This morning I set off at 7am with vest top on and the sun shining, only downside is there is a hill first but then onto a cycle path which goes alongside countryside and back again...had Coach Bennett from Nike Run App with the “thank you” 45 minute run in my ear and my music dipping in and out of course.
Slowed the pace right down and at 20 minutes I felt comfortable...Coach Bennett said “You can do this” and I did (not sure what I would do without Bennett in my life 😂❤️😂)
I know all you lovely people on here will get THAT feeling/achievement and just wanted to shout about it as chuffed that this 49 year old can run 🏃♀️

Thank you so much DR...I didn’t even know if I would achieve it this morning but slowed it right down today (so don’t feel like I’m going fast at all) it will be 4 weeks since graduating so a celebration run ! I could only do that once a week though (if that) 😂🏃♀️
Ah so great to read this... well done! Great effort!! You and Coach Bennett will go far together!! (Writing this as I volunteer Marshall at my first Parkrun!! 😉) x
Fantastic! It’s amazing isn’t it how far you can go when you’re going slower than normal. I need to have a think about tackling an early run, it’s a bit too warm now for me to go when I usually go
Yes I saw your post and that’s what inspired me to try further distance than 5k so thank you ! Well done to you too and I will keep an eye on your posts to see what’s next 🏃♀️
Blimey - I'm not used to inspiring anyone! It's good to know though. I might still be a bit of a lump, but at least I'm no longer a lazy lump!
It's good to know, though. Sometimes it feels as if I'm just boasting... but reading others' stories and posting on this forum really does keep me going.
Smashed it again!! Well done 😊. I love those early morning runs. They are the best!
Which watch are you using to record your runs? I don’t have one yet, but probably need to think about it. I’ve just downloaded the free Strava app onto my iPhone just for now.
I use my Garmin Forerunner 35 watch which was preloved on Ebay and wear it everyday (depends if you like that size watch) all your data (heart rate/steps etc) syncs to the Garmin Connect app to tell you all the stats and it’s very easy to use.
Good to know, thank you. I keep storing away all these little tips and nuggets of information everyone shares on here. I’m juggling tracking my runs via my iPhone, Strava & Fitbit Alta. It’s all getting a bit much. Think I’m techno-phased by it all.....🤯
Worth having a little look at Nike Run Club App once you have graduated ! Guided runs which are great with coaches to help you along the way....still need someone in my ear to keep me moving 😂🏃♀️
