My Epic Come-back after a cold!

So, 6 days off, coughing and feeling sorry for myself, just after completing W8 R1.

Decided to take my 14 year old son with me, which was good and bad....

W8 R2: Sarah my trainer took 10 minutes off (randomly), luckily I had downloaded Runkeeper, which told me I'd done 20 minutes just as Sarah was muttering something about 10 minutes,...? er oh dear.... so having done some checks with time etc, I was definately sure that Runkeeper was accurate, but just in case I kept on going, until I got to 3km... and at just a few seconds shy of 36 minutes running I stopped!

Wow... yes it was hard, but got more 'comfortable' as I went along. The route was mainly slightly inclined in my favour, with a few dips and hills from time to time. My son literally could not run as slowly as me, he could barely WALK as slowly as me, as I took it really easy (12/km!!) - but my chest was fine, my legs felt good and I could watch my son run for 3 minutes at 3 times my speed ahead of me (and then wait)... one day I'll out run him!!! (LOL)

I have been doing eccentric extensions to help my achilles and my pantar faciitis (sp?) during my 'cold'... and I think that has helped keeping my feet, ankles and calves in shape.

I feel really happy with my slowest of slow jogs today, and will do W8 R3 on Tuesday - I think I'll go back to my there and back route... which has a slight upward incline on the return... eek!

PB

Sorry about your coughing after week 8 run 1 but well done on running today with your 14 year old son run 2 of week 8, you were correct on running at your pace, not his, you overran by 8 minutes, week 8 covers 28 minutes, not 36, anyway you did very well indeed.

Onwards and upwards to 3 of week 8, another 28 minute run. 🏃 😊

I know I over ran!!! ... I'm shocked that I felt so 'comfortable' in going for so long. When I graduate I'm going to keep running for only 30 mins 3 x per week, but work a bit on pace... I'm so excited that "I'M BACK"... and when I say pace, I'm going to up from snail to tortoise I think! But first I must complete week 8 and week 9... I'm so excited!!!

Get your son to come out with you on all the runs and remind him what you said in your first post that one day in the near future you will outrun him.

(I'm pretty sure that if he learnt to shuffle-jog at my pace he still would NOT be able to keep going for as long as I can!)

Well done on an awesome run! I think its great to have family support, I have a 12 year old zippy son and there is no way I would outpace him, nor do I wish to try, I'm happy to go at my pace.

Looks like you have lovely surroundings for running, enjoy the next one.
