We had lots of snow, then I went on holiday, then had to work away. Finally today I put on my running shoes. It’s three weeks since my last proper run. I took inspiration from ktsok and decided to run while my son was at the leisure centre doing TaeKwondo. , instead of just sitting in the car for 45mins. Sadly, there is no fancy track here but I thought I would just do a 30 minute run along the pavements around the town. I have driven around this area many times as my sister used to live here, but never noticed how hilly it is! Strava says 83ft elevation.
It was pretty hard going, but actually not quite as bad as I expected. I did just under 4km in 30 mins so i’m quite pleased with that. So now i’m back I need a goal. I graduated just a few weeks back, and I liked following the C25K plan as I felt I was working towards something. I’m not really interested in doing 10k (yet!). What other targets do people set themselves?

Woohoo! Well done E. 3 weeks off and bosh! 30 minutes on a hilly route done. Boom!
I have been running 3 times a week. That includes at least 2x 5k runs and a fartlek/experimental run. That could mean a bit of speed or hills, just to keep it interesting. I have also been trying new routes each week.
I ran 5k today in my usual time of 32’ something. That seems to be my comfortable-ish pace. Not quite conversational at times but not horribly uncomfortable either. I’m not sure whether to just carry on at this pace and trust that as I get fitter I will increase pace, or whether I need to actively do more slow/fast runs; I’d like to run 5k in 30.
But most of all, it’s just getting out there 3 times a week at the moment!
I really like the idea BUT i’m not good with crowds. I don’t think I could do it on my own and my regular running buddies can’t/won’t! My partner has his children on a Saturday and my teenage daughter can’t get out of bed that early because of the nature of being a teenager!! My local Parkrun regularly has 500+ runners and I really don’t think I could manage that alone!
I went on my own and it was fine... I did go to Junior Parkrun the week before with my son. That helped a bit because I knew what to expect. But there were loads of friendly people there and they look out for the beginners. So if you can pluck up the nerve to get yourself there, you’ll be fine 🙂
Oh crikey, if you think 83ft elevation is hilly then don’t ever come running in Sheffield! I do 88ft elevation on every run n that’s a gentle slope round here lol. I haven’t run any of the hills yet, at the moment I’m sticking to the valley bottom
Anyway, well done for getting back out after your enforced break. It must feel great to get back to it 😊
I know it doesn’t sound like much but it was so unexpected! I have only ever driven that route, but have done it many times, and I honestly thought it was quite flat, turns out it is not 😂 and compared to the route I normally run, plus the not having run for three weeks, it was a bit of a shock 😱
