I've always been a walker, never really done running but I've been following the NHS One Health emails for about five years now and finally become inspired to take the couch to 5K challenge. Start this Sunday and looking forward to getting out of the gym (where I use cross-trainer, rower, treadmill (for walking) and weight machines) into the fresh air. I have plotted a couple of routes in my local area which include pavement, footpath and grass, along riverside, through common land and local housing estate. Slightly nervous of that first venture out my front door but facing my fear and will do it anyway π
C25K begins for me this Sunday: I've always been... - Couch to 5K
C25K begins for me this Sunday
The first time you cross the threshold is the hardest! I was given some great advice: no one knows it's your first time except you; if you're red and puffing, no-one else knows that you're not just starting mile 10; smile at people as you approach then and 9 times out of 10! they'll just smile right back! Have fun on Sunday π
Good luck to you on your running journey beginning on Sunday with run 1, week 1 of C25K. The slogan mantra is slow and steady, trust the program, don't run on consecutive days, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish, having been a gym member and already fit with all the walking you have done I think you will enjoy your runs.π π
Great for wanting to start c25k . Getting out in the fresh air is great , good luck π
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Enjoy your journey.
Thanks everyone for replying to my first post and I have just completed week 1 run 1 and the mind games stopped within seconds of starting. I was listening to some good active music and the C25K app is great and I feel quite exhilarated. Looking forward to run 2. So glad I've started this, even at middle age of 54. It was so nice to be outside breathing fresh air, which is something I haven't really done for a long time π
