Week 1 Run 1

So.....I took the plunge and started C25k last night. I'm 40 this year and haven't run too much in the last 20 years.

I really felt like i had accomplished something when finished but found it incredibly hard and struggled to do the last runs.

I'm so sore today and totally deflated as want to run tomorrow but don't even think I could walk it.

A 5k run seems as far away as ever.

Please tell me it gets easier... all advice welcome!!

Hi brilliant for getting out the door! That first week is the hardest in lots of ways! I’ve just graduated today and I’m 46 and hadn’t run in 20 years either but now I run for 30 minutes non stop and so can you by following the plan. The rest days are important so don’t worry if you take more than one between runs. Listen to your body, it’s really important to not over do it!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes links to stretches which will help reduce aching.

Enjoy your journey.

I am on week 3 and really thought on week 1 how am I ever going to be able to run longer. But I am and it feels good. I am very unfit and overweight but am really enjoying my plods. I read a very interesting piece about slow running. It is deffo the answer for me. I will worry about how far I am actually running in weeks 10 and beyond. I find music really really helps too. Can’t imagine plodding in silence. So much support and help on here too. Good luck with day 2. Don’t let your head demons derail you. I have managed to silence mine. I had a full on battle in week 2 run 2 about how I couldn’t do this and really should think about repeating every week. Bad bad head monkeys. I will do this, as will you. Positive mental attitude will get us through.

You have accomplished something you've started c25k. Do a bit of walking in your rest days even if you feel achy and when you run make sure you are going slow and yes it does get easier keep going 😊

Like everyone else says , yes you can do this. I have never run before, about 10 seconds was all I could do if the bus was at the stop. But trusting the plan I am now in week five, today I will be running for 8 minutes .... twice! Each run astounds me. If I can, you definitely can. Pre-run stretches, a steady pace and post run exercises have helped me with the aches. Keeping hydrated every day is a must. Good luck. 😄
