Hi all. Following a long absence due to a serious chest & ear infection I’ve finally been given the go ahead by the doc to introduce some exercise back into my life. The ear infection damaged nerves in my ear which has left me dizzy 🥴 so I have to be a bit careful but I can’t wait to get back to it. I’m not sure quite where to start after eight weeks of doing nothing but anything is better than nothing! Any advice gladly received. 👍😊🏎

Welcome back.

I’d recommend just going for a run with an alarm set for your last duration so you don’t over run... then go nice and gently, keep the pace down and see what you got, then you can assess where to drop into your running again.

Thank you - it turns out that the illnesses & inactivity have hit me hard. I started out on a run and it was hard hard hard. So to get some structure I’m fast tracking through C25K from the start - One of each rather than three - I can see it’ll take a bit of time to get fit again - the doc said up to 3 months until I felt myself so I’ll be patient and do what I can. Thanks for your support 👍🏎

That should work nicely too... nice and easy does it for the next few weeks and then you’ll be all set for some wonderful summer running.

I certainly hope so - I’ve really missed being out in the fresh air!

I like UnfitNoMore’s suggestion, or you could try a run like w5r1 a series of 5 minute runs with 3 minute walks then you can assess how you’re going and ease yourself back in - what with the chest infection too.

I always run slowly (Japanese slow jogging technique) so would heartily recommend going nice and slow and see how you get on & use this as a ‘listening to my body while cautiously running’ exercise. Glad you’re on the mend and hope all goes well.

Thank you. It’s harder thank expected so I’m fast tracking through the early weeks of c25k to give me some structure and a sense of achievement! Scary how quickly I got unfit from being unwell &’not doing owt! Thank you for your words of advice 👍🏎

That’s a really smart way of building up again. Just give yourself a huge pat on the back for getting out there and getting fit & focused again.
