Ostomy to 5K - Day 1 Down!

I had two surgeries over the past year-and-a-half to give me a permanent ileostomy, which without a doubt has given me my life back - and now, after 10+ years of illness, I have to figure out what to actually do with that life! I have always hated running, mostly because when you have no stamina or muscles running is torture, but I am determined to get over the hill to the point where it doesn't hurt anymore - because I have put off doing any kind of exercise for quite a few years, so probably time to get on that.

So Day 1 is over, and I can't wait to continue - though I am very glad no one was there watching me for this first go, because it was definitely embarrassing how quickly I got tired! Hopefully that will improve ASAP.

Welcome to the family!

Well done on getting started.

My main advice to you would be to take it steady, don’t push to hard too quickly, and slow down when running.

I struggle with Crohns’ Disease, and I know that if I push too hard it kicks me back!

Good luck and happy trails!

Well done you, you said you have your life back , well make the most of it. C25k is an excellent plan and works for people who haven't run before. You can do this good luck 😊😊

Someone I know has an ileostomy and is stepping up from 10k/half marathon distance to marathon/ultra marathon. Well done on taking your first steps.
