A bit fed up - have had to take a break with ? Injury at wk8. What about gait analysis?

I haven’t missed a run, have progressed steadily through C25k and really enjoyed it. But I have had to stop at wk8 due to pain in my R knee and shin. I’m going to see a physio today but have also seen gait analysis recommended here. I am aware that my running shoes are a bit old but they are so comfortable! Gait analysis has mixed reviews - is it little more than a ploy to sell expensive running shoes? I am going to ask the physio today but interested to hear others’ views. My main concern is losing all the hard work I’ve put in over the past 7 weeks and having to stop running. Bit fed up!!

I injured my knee at the end of week 1 and had to stop till it healed. Once it was ok I went and had a gait analysis done and got proper running shoes. I found them amazing. I graduated last month and haven’t had an injury since I restarted c25k. I’ve only ever seen good reports of gait analysis on here. Hope you’re not on IC too long. Happy running 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

My views on buying shoes are laid out in this post healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which includes a link to a post about gait analysis.

I felt very much as you prior to having gait analysis but was very impressed by the process and learned more about my running style in half an hour than I would have otherwise learned in many years.

I recommend it for every new runner.

Thanks, Iannoda. As usual your post and information are REALLY helpful. I am off to get some suitable, appropriate running shoes and a gait analysis assessment. Stopping running is not an option!

Definitely speak to your physio about it and new shoes might be the way forward. You wont loose your fitness in a week and some people even said that the break gave them more energy next run. Let us know how you get on!
