week7 - knee soreness.

Arse and bugger!

Half way through run1 and got knee pain - so stopped running and walked home.

Today I have a very stiff knee that isnt happy. Not painful or swollen, but not happy none the less.

Think its time to upgrade my trainers to proper running shoes - but bit nervous about going for gait analysis!

So give me a kick up the arse folks!

You'll be fine going for the gait analysis, they just have you running on a treadmill, only for a minute, in a neutral pair of shoes, then give you lots of shoes to try and run in and then tell you which are the best, after watching how you run on screen (not full body video just the feet lol!)

I had mine done a few weeks ago and they're just great :)

Even if it isn't swollen try putting some ice on it (or bag of peas), I find that really helps me. But don't try running again until you feel better or you'll risk more injury! Getting the gait analysis is probably a good idea though, nothing to be nervous about from what I've heard. I can't afford a new pair or trainers yet but might treat myself once I complete the programme.

Spoke to a lovely chap at the local running shop who has helped me with my fears. Hoping to pop over today or tomorrow, as I cant see me running until Friday at the earliest to give the knee a rest. I've got a support stocking thing on it at the mo and that is helping. The pain is on the outside part of my left knee and gets a bit screamy when I put my weight all on my left leg.. So week7 is going to be a bit longer for me that everyone else lol.

hi miranda. hope knee gets better soon. please dont do back to running til you feel comfortable with walking & stairs & running. I made this mistake & it cost me a month off. if knee is ok for a little run on the treadmill then go for it but if it is causing you to run differently I wouldnt think you would get a true picture of your running style. with regard to trainers, the ones I had recommended to me were fantastic & have made a difference so I would highly recommend the gait analysis.

good luck & dont be too disheartened if you have to take a little time out ~ on the upside this does make you even more determiined :)

Bless ya, sounds really uncomfortable, it's weired isn't it that you can get so miffed at the injuries, not so much because they hurt but because they delay getting on with the running. Let us know about the new running shoes :)

I am officially kicking you up the arse! Go get your running shoes Mrs!!!! Is that better?! ;) Hope the knee sorts itself out soon though, I am finding at night I have restless leg syndrome since starting this!!! Horrid niggly legs that I can't keep still! :(

Well, knee is good today after resting it yesterday. Spoke to the local running shop that does the analysis thingy and after explaining my symptoms he thought I could be looking at about 90quid for shoes with the right sort of support to sort out the cause of the knee pain.

He was really apologetic though but explained how shoes have gone up and they have to pass that on to the customer. The analysis bit is free though.

So I'm I'm feeling stuck - do I run in my old trainers and hope my knee will be ok and treat it until I can get new runners in a month or so..

or do I stop (EEK!) and wait to run again when I get my runners.

ARGH. Stuck. I suppose I should just get my gait done and see if it is going to cost me that much. Maybe I will try tomorrow.
