I have this thing where I can only run when it gets dark, bizarre I know. I’m not a natural runner and am very self conscious. So I tasked myself with must run in the day - disaster! The weather was and still is beautiful so I thought perfect. I’m on W7R2 so I knew I had the second of my 25 minutes. After 11 mins, I stopped, worst thing I could of done and then walked home with the hump. It’s such a huge barrier for me has anyone ever been hypnotised to overcome confidence issues?
Rubbish run - abort: I have this thing where I... - Couch to 5K
Rubbish run - abort
Wow, you’re at week 7! That’s such an accomplishment, I can’t offer any advice on confidence but just know you’re not on your own I completed week 2 today and it nearly killed me 😂🤦♀️ Complete non runner I chose a route that should of been quiet but at the end of my last run caught up with an old guy, I couldn’t say good morning because I was so out of breath, he must of wondered if he should call an ambulance! do it for us all struggling you are inspiring getting so far ☺️ Also if you enjoy reading read Bryony Gordon If I can do it ...good luck you’re almost there
Just keep going, it’s gets easier and is addictive 😊
Thank you I do hope it does at the moment I can’t imagine getting through it all, but determined to give it my best shot ☺️
Hi I know what you mean. I used to stop when I see people as I would be embarrassed but I soon got over that as I was determined to keep going. Mind over matter you can do this 😊🏃♀️🏃♀️
Well done getting out of your comfort zone and having a go. That’s the first part of smashing the mental barrier down. I haven’t gone as far as hypnosis, but I do find relaxation techniques work for me. I use the headspace app daily and it has helped me conquer some fears and quit smoking. The people out there who “can’t run” need people like us out there running... it can be a little intimidating if the only runners they see are the athletic, done it for years types, so I’d certainly love to hear about you beating the fear and being out there inspiring others.
I felt a lot like that at the start but if you keep on pushing yourself slightly out of your comfort zone you might suprise yourself! The more people you run past the less it bothers you. I hid away to start with on quiet trails. After finishing couch to 5k I was running round the park and through town. As I called in M&S for bread last week after my run (covered in sweat and beetroot faced) I knew that the last inhibition was gone! Don't be hard on yourself, just keep on having another go and it will get better.
Ah they are not watching you; they are too busy laughing at me! 😄 try to take a deep breath and just go forward. We all have rubbish days, and you have come so far that you and we know you can do it. Oddly enough, for one who is always cold except when running, I’ve decided really beautiful days are not the easiest run. So take heart and don’t let it get to you. Getting out the door is the big step; the rest is practice and stamina. 💕💕
Wowww wk7 well done you. I know exactly how you feel. I started just after Xmas running in the dark thinking that by the time the lights nights came I’d be running like Paula Radcliffe 😂🤣. Wrong again! . I too am not a runner. And also self conscious. So it’s a challenge running during daylight. you can’t help feeling a tad embarrassed as you come across people - but just think about why you are doing it. And I bet if they knew your story they’d be cheering you on 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 By the way I’m only on wk4! A bit of a sore knee held me up for a cpl of weeks. So I think you’re doing great. You don’t need hypnosis. Don’t get too down - saying “stopping was the worst think you could have done” means you’ll know what to do next time, just keep on. In the words of Laura ‘you can do it’ 🏃♀️😃
I have just finished Week 7. Do not worry what others think just go and run. Run slowly and enjoy. It’s only just recently I have managed to run in daylight as all my runs were after work and as a result in the dark. People are staring in amazement and jealously I find as you are running and they can only walk. Stick with it don’t feel bad give it a day and get back out there and finish the week. Good luck if you want to chat just message.
Gawd, it’s good to know I’m not the only one worrying!!! I bought a Hygge headband that doesn’t make me look anything like me, it also holds my headphones in, so no-one knows it’s me! Really helped me! You can pull it right over your eyebrows and not look at anyone!!!🤣🙈 🏃🏼♀️
Oh wow I hadn’t thought of a headband, thank-you. We must keep going and thank you so much for taking the time to reply 😊
I still prefer running in the dark ( as per my post this morning) I wear a hat in the cold weather, a headband in the warmer weather, keeps hair in some sort of control, earbuds in place, and I have never felt sweat running down my face 🥵
