Hard work

So I’ve been out and done my first day today, my goodness it was harder than I expected. I walk and cycle so thought I was fitter than I am but I found this incredibly hard. Fingers crossed it gets easier?!?!

It will get easier as you get through the program, just take each week as it comes and follow the program ridgidly. You can repeat any runs or week's as much as you want to if you have been off running for a few weeks as I did this morning.

I graduated last June, ran my third 5K PB of 32.22 in October but since then I have not been running all that much recently, so this morning I reran week 2 of C25K on the exact route that I graduated last June.

Thank you for your reply, I did try it a couple years ago but didn’t do as well as I thought I would so gave up after the first run, this time I really really want to try and do more. I’m glad I can re run them if I want to that’s helpful to know

Congratulations on the first run. Today, I ran for the first time in about 30 years and, yes, it was hard. But, yes, I actually can't wait for my next one. How weird to be saying that! Very best of luck with it!

Good luck with your running

Thank you. Yes, the experienced runners I've met say that a rest day in between is absolutely essential. Good luck!

Very well done on the beast that is run one. I still have flashbacks to that run 😂

It does get easier and hopefully you’ll find your happy comfortable conversational pace soon.

Everyone says it gets easier , when you find 60 seconds hard as I found it hard also and thought how am I ever going to be able to run for 30 minutes, but it's true the program does work it must be magic or something because here I am running for 25 minutes working my way through 28 . So good luck keep going

Hi, I've just done my first week and also found it very hard, like you I walk a lot so thought that might give me a bit of a head start but I struggled to run the 60 seconds in the first run! Good news is, I've just done the 3rd run and found it much more comfortable, I also recovered quicker afterwards, so hopefully you'll find it gets better :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You are probably going too fast. You need to be able to hold a clear ungasping conversation as you run..........if not, you are going too fast.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi Tigg85. LOL that is what my young nephew of 30 years old said to me after he accompanied me on W1R2 which seems like eons ago now I have just graduated. Even my son who goes to gym three times a week had pain in his quads and calves after "power walking" at my jogging pace for W9R1 and W9R2 over the holidays. It gets less painful as you progress, and the great thing is that people who think they are fit still have to put in the effort like the unfit ones like me. That's rough justice. Enjoy.
