Complete newbie and 17st couch potato here. This is the year I change the above. My last run was in school 25 years ago. Am working up to doing first proper couch to 5k session Monday night. Did 12k steps brisk walking today and doing park run with friends tomorrow (walking rather than running). Wish me luck with Monday!!
Hello from complete newbie: Complete newbie and... - Couch to 5K
Hello from complete newbie
Excellent well done you. Good luck. Keep it slow 😊
Ooh you will love it! I personally found I had to brisk walk for a few weeks first before I could do any jogging as I got shin splints and a bad knee in the first week of C25K so take it easy and build up your strength!
I am losing a steady 2lbs or more per week with this and cutting calories. I still have 4 stone to lose but the knowledge that after graduating C25K I will be able to maintain or lose weight with running a few times a week is a great incentive!
And there's so SO many benefits you will notice! Better breathing, better sleep, stronger muscles, more energy and stamina ... Just to name a few!
Well done. I’ve started Couch to 5k with a local athletics club this week after not running for 30 years. I wasn’t the quickest but I finished the first session. Going to do my 2nd run tonight with my son so he can keep me motivated.
I’m going to Washington DC at the end of March and I’m aiming to run around the National Mall and then I’m going to New York so, will run around Central Park.
It’s given me something to aim for and I have loads of people supporting me along the way so I can’t back out now.
Onwards and upwards
Hi, good luck for Monday, great way to start the new year!
I’m sure you’ll love it once you start, and remember you don’t have to go fast just keep at it 🙂

Slow and steady as you go and a good 5K walk at Park Run tomorrow will set you up for your first run on Monday!
Please take it gently and keep posting for terrific support!
I originally started C25K at a similar weight, and lost 2 stone during it and the following weeks (until a knee injury called a halt). It's really important to take this gradually, and repeat runs and/or weeks if you need to. Enjoy the journey rather than rush to the destination (and avoid injury!). I'm starting the program again now, having run little in the last few months, and I plan to repeat week 1 until I feel like moving on. Happy running.
Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement - I can't tell you how much it means to me. As a piano teacher (amongst other things) I spend half my week encouraging people to take things steadily and enjoy the journey so it's time to take a bit of my own medicine!
Well done. Not a bad time for your first parkrun today.
I'm so grateful to you and G for supporting me and giving me the confidence to get started! I have several aches but no pains and I'm so proud of myself. And I reckon I ran 1/3 of it and walked the rest so much better than I'd imagined!
