Week 6 - sudden increase

I am just about to start week 7 (female aged 65) never run before, but I find the sudden jump to 20, now 25 mins a bit much. Have done 1 25 min, but dread doing it again!

You’re doing so well ! If you’ve done it once then you definitely can do it again. Maybe you’re getting anxious, which will make your breathing less efficient, and then your muscles have to work harder ? This isn’t meant to be a punishment ! Go out in a spirit of adventure, not with gritted teeth to force yourself through, but with curiosity to see what your body can do. Be proud of you - think how far you’ve come since week 1 ! And I find it really helps when running to think about anything else under the sun, but NOT about running 😄 We know you can do this. Relax, head up, enjoy your journey x

You've done it. You've had a rest day for the muscles to recover. Just go do it again - but if it was really hard, you may be trying to do it too fast. Slow down. Get in touch with your inner snail. You should have learned that by now, but it is easy to get carried away with the idea that running is something faster. Distance does not matter - just put in the minutes. You know you can do it.

Well done.

You need to adopt a positive attitude and self belief............ you have already run for 25 minutes, so what are you worried about? You have managed the "jump" already.

Just stay nice and slow.

If you want to run for thirty minutes, you have to run for twenty five.

As a 60 year old non- runner I can completely empathize with your post! I’ve just done W6R3 and also have to do it again x3!!

But Laura has told me I’m a officially runner now....so I must be doing something right😁 though I do feel a bit of a fraud as I’m a treadmill runner😉

I was told to push your elbows back when you run. It’s weird but it helps propel you forward when you get tired. And run slower - before long you’ll be speeding off! I have a playlist on my phone for my runs. I try to put on my “fun songs” (the ones that get you wiggling and wanting to dance!!) when I know I’ll start to get tired to keep me going. You’re so close!! Don’t stop now. xx
