W4 completed!

It was tough but not impossible. Tuesday is a New Year and a good time to start week 5 full of hope etc. It looks very challenging with 3 varied runs, starting quite easy but ending with a proper 20 minute single run which seems quite a leap compared to where I am now. How did others find this?

I just did my first run of week 4, so well done you for finishing!

Somehow having only 4 runs per session, even if two are longer made it seem more doable than I expected. Knowing you have finished after that second 5 minute run is great. I plan my route so I am at least five minutes walk away from home at the end of the last run so I can't miss the warm-down walk!

Well done getting to week 5.

I found run 2 the hardest... that run 3 came pretty easily for me, I ran it very slowly and gently. It was emotional at the end, because it felt so amazing and in that moment I knew I could run 30, I could run 5k and that I could go on all the way to my marathon ambition. You can do that run... don’t worry about it... if you add the brisk walk intervals in, you’ll see run 3 is actually the shortest heart raising workout of the week.

Look at what you just did... week 4 was tough and you were tougher, you have what it takes to get through tough runs and your body is ready for week 5... trust the plan, keep amazing yourself and allow your belief in yourself to grow.

I found today (w5r1, the ‘quite easy’ one 🤪) really hard, but I think in hindsight I’m a bit viral and am currently icing my knee as it’s a bit swollen (old injury). But the good news is I finished it despite the above! Just hope I’m in one piece for run 2. Good luck! I’m sure you will be fine 🙂

It was probably very unwise to describe any run I haven’t yet done as ‘quite easy’. On paper the swap of two 3 minute runs for one 5 minute run seems a good deal but to go to 20 minutes just two runs later seems like a massive leap as I stilll regard the brisk walking, however short, as a ‘rest’ which I look forward to 😀.

It IS a rest! My heart rate jumps about 20/30 bpm from brisk walking to slow jogging... not sure I’m ready to leave the walking crèche!
